Removal & Installation: Camshaft: Installation

1. To install, reverse removal procedure. Thoroughly lubricate camshaft and seal lips. Use Seal Installer (MD998306) to install camshaft oil seal. Ensure camshaft sprocket mark is aligned with timing mark on cylinder head. See Figure.
2. Check camshaft end play. If excessive, replace thrust case and recheck. If end play is still excessive, check rear of camshaft journal for wear. If badly worn, replace camshaft.
3. Temporarily set valve clearance to cold engine settings. Readjust to hot engine settings when engine is at normal operating temperature.
