Transmission Output Shaft Seal Replacement (6L80)

Fastener Tightening Specifications:  Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the exhaust system. Refer to Exhaust System Replacement .
  3. Remove the drive shaft. Refer to Rear Propeller Shaft Replacement (RWD) or Rear Propeller Shaft Replacement (AWD) .
  4. Support the transmission with a suitable jack.
  5. Remove the transmission mount assembly. Refer to Transmission Mount Replacement (Rear Wheel Drive)  or Transmission Mount Replacement (All Wheel Drive) .
  6. Remove the transmission extension housing assembly. Refer to Case Extension and Gasket Replacement (6L80)  or Case Extension and Gasket Replacement (6L50) .
1 Output Shaft Seal
Tip: 
  • Use the J 45000  to remove the seal. Use care in order to avoid damaging the output shaft bushing.
  • Lubricate the seal with clean transmission fluid.
  • Use the J 38693  to install the seal. See Special Tools .
