Removal Procedure

  1. Apply the parking brake.
  2. Shift the transmission into NEUTRAL.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  4. Remove the left catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (LH8) .

  5. Remove the heat shield bolts (1).
  6. Remove the heat shield (2).

    IMPORTANT: Do not pull on the boot portion of the cable.
  7. Disconnect the range selector cable end (3) from the range selector lever.
  8. Remove the retainer (1) from the range selector cable (2).
  9. Push the range selector cable locking tabs (2) inward toward each other to release the cable from the bracket.

  10. Remove the nut securing the transmission control lever to the manual shaft.
  11. Remove the transmission control lever from the manual shaft.

  12. Disconnect the electrical connector (3) from the switch (4).

  13. Remove the bolts securing the park/neutral back up switch to the transmission.
    14. IMPORTANT: If the switch does not slide off the manual shaft, the outer edge of the manual shift shaft may need to be filed to remove any burrs.
  14. Remove the park/neutral back up switch from the manual shaft.
