Removal Procedure

IMPORTANT:
Use the J 24319-B
in order to separate all the tie rods and ball joints. See Special Tools .
- Remove the front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
- Mark the position of the steering linkage inner tie rod nut and loosen it.
- Remove the steering linkage outer tie rod nut from the steering linkage outer tie rod (2) and discard it.
- Use pullerJ 24319-B to separate the steering linkage outer tie rod from the steering knuckle. See Special Tools .
- Separate the steering linkage outer tie rod end (1) from the steering linkage inner tie rod.
- Inspect the steering linkage inner tie rod for bent or damaged threads. Repair or replace the steering linkage inner tie rod as necessary. Refer to Tie Rod Replacement - Inner .
- Clean the tapered surface of the steering knuckle.
