Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Hummer H2. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
IMPORTANT: Use the J 24319-B  in order to separate all the tie rods and ball joints. See Special Tools .

  1. Remove the front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Mark the position of the steering linkage inner tie rod nut and loosen it.
  3. Remove the steering linkage outer tie rod nut from the steering linkage outer tie rod (2) and discard it.

  4. Use pullerJ 24319-B  to separate the steering linkage outer tie rod from the steering knuckle. See Special Tools .

  5. Separate the steering linkage outer tie rod end (1) from the steering linkage inner tie rod.
  6. Inspect the steering linkage inner tie rod for bent or damaged threads. Repair or replace the steering linkage inner tie rod as necessary. Refer to Tie Rod Replacement - Inner .
  7. Clean the tapered surface of the steering knuckle.
