Timing Chain and Sprockets Cleaning and Inspection

  1. Clean the components with cleaning solvent.
  2. CAUTION: Refer to Safety Glasses Caution .
  3. Dry the components with compressed air.

  5. Inspect the timing chain for binding or wear.

  7. Inspect the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets for the following conditions:
    • Worn teeth (1)
    • Damaged teeth (2)
    • Chipped teeth (3)
    • Worn valleys between the sprocket teeth

  9. Inspect the crankshaft sprocket keyway for wear.
  10. Inspect the crankshaft sprocket oil pump drive splines for wear.
