Circuit/System Verification

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2012 GMC Yukon XL, 2012 GMC Yukon, 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2012 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2012 Chevrolet Avalanche. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
    NOTE:
    • The engine oil level and the oil pressure are critical to the correct operation of the camshaft position actuator system. Verify that the engine has the correct oil level and the correct oil pressure before continuing with this diagnostic.
    • The engine oil condition has a major impact on the camshaft actuator system. Debris in the oil can interfere with the camshaft position actuator solenoid and the mechanical camshaft actuator operation. Inspect for dirty or degraded crankcase oil. The engine may require an oil change. Inquire with the customer when the last oil change was performed. You may also monitor the scan tool Engine Oil Life Remaining parameter. Advise the customer an oil change may be required.
  1. Verify the engine has the correct oil pressure. Refer to Oil Pressure Diagnosis and Testing .
  2. Ignition ON, observe the scan tool DTC information. Verify that none of the following DTCs are set. DTC P0335, P0336, P0340, P0341, P0521, P0522, P0523, P1516, P2101, P2119, or P2176.
  3. NOTE:

If a crankshaft or CMP sensor DTC is set, the Camshaft Position Actuator output control will not function.

  4. Engine idling, command the CMP actuator to 20° with a scan tool. The Desired CMP parameter should match the CMP Angle parameter.
  5. Observe the CMP Variance parameter with a scan tool. The CMP Variance will increment for several seconds, until the CMP Angle value matches the Desired CMP value. The CMP Variance value should return to 0°.
  6. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC, to verify the DTC does not reset. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that are captured in the Freeze Fame/Failure Records Data List.
