Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2012 GMC Yukon XL, 2012 GMC Yukon, 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2012 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2012 Chevrolet Avalanche. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the automatic transmission shift lever harness connector.
  2. Ignition ON, verify with a scan tool the Tap Up/Down Switch parameter displays OFF in the Chassis Data list under BCM.
    • If not the specified value

Repair the short to ground in the 12 volt signal circuit. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.

    • If the specified value
  3. Ignition ON, test for greater than 11 volts between the ignition voltage circuit terminal 4 and ground at the battery negative post.
    • If less than the specified value

Test the ignition voltage circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.

    • If greater than the specified value
  4. Ignition OFF, test for 6.6-7.0 K ohms between terminal 3 and terminal 4 on the automatic transmission shift lever harness connector. Also, test for 3.7-4.2 K ohms when pressing the minus (-) switch and 1.7-2.0 K ohms when selecting the plus (+) switch.
    • If not within the specified values

Replace the automatic transmission shift lever.

    • If within the specified value
  5. Test the signal circuit between the BCM and the automatic transmission manual shift switch for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
