TCEM - Incremental Position Sensor
- Set parking brake.
- Block wheels.
- Remove the encoder motor from transfer case. Using a paint pen or marker, place indexing marks on the shift detent lever receiver and the mounting surface of the encoder motor.
- Connect encoder motor to engine harness.
- Key ON, engine OFF.
- Transmission in Neutral.
- Attach scan tool. Clear codes. DTC C0569-4B may remain in memory.
- Monitor the following parameters while using the Transfer Case Motor Control function of the Special Function feature of the scan tool to command the encoder motor forward and reverse. The parameters should display as shown below.
- If the parameters do not display as described, replace the encoder motor assembly.
NOTE:
You must perform the Transfer Case High/Low Clutch Reset procedure after performing the next step.
| Parameter | Range | Forward | Reverse | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Incremental Position Sensor (°) | -150°/+360° | -150° or 360° | 360° or -150° | Alternate between -150° and 360° |
| Incremental Position Sensor (V) | 7.0-8.0 V | 7.0-8.0 V | 7.0-8.0 V | Value constant when commanded forward or reverse |
| Incremental Sensor Direction | Clockwise/ Counter Clockwise | Counter Clockwise | Clockwise | Scan tool may not read correctly if C0306 or C0396 are in memory. |
| Incremental Sensor Direction (V) | 0.70-4.3 V | 0.7-0.8 V | 4.1-4.3 V | - |
| Incremental Impulse Sensor (V) | 0.70-4.3 V | Varies | Varies | Varies when commanded forward or reverse |
TCCM
- Key OFF. Disconnect the TCCM X1 connector.
- Key ON, engine OFF. Connect the EL-49742 harness.
- Test for 7.5-8.5 V between the incremental encoder sensor (8 V) supply pin, TCCM X1-9, and the ground terminal of the EL-49742
harness, black terminal.
- If the outside the specified range, replace TCCM.
- Test for 7.5-8.5 V between the incremental encoder sensor (8 V) supply pin, TCCM X1-9, and the low reference pin, TCCM X1-10.
- If the outside the specified range, replace TCCM.
- Test for 6.0-7.0 V between the incremental encoder impulse signal pin, TCCM X1-3, and the ground terminal of the EL-49742
harness, black terminal.
- If the outside the specified range, replace TCCM.
- Key OFF. Connect the TCCM X1 connector. Disconnect the TCCM X2 connector.
- Key OFF. Test for a diagnostic B+ (+0.0/-1.0 V) between the incremental encoder direction pin, TCCM X2-14, and the B+ terminal of the EL-49742
harness, red terminal.
- If the outside the specified range, replace TCCM.
- Go to Circuit/System testing.
