Removal Procedure
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2012 GMC Yukon XL, 2012 GMC Yukon, 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2012 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2012 Chevrolet Avalanche. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Remove the rocker arm. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
- Disconnect the spark plug wire at the spark plug.
- Twist each plug wire boot 1/2 turn.
- Pull only on the boot in order to remove the wire from the spark plug.
- Loosen the spark plug 1 or 2 turns.
- Brush or air blast away any dirt or debris from around the spark plug.
- Remove the spark plug.
- Install the J 22794 spark plug port adapter into the spark plug hole.
- Attach an air hose to the J 22794 spark plug port adapter.
- Apply compressed air to the J 22794 spark plug port adapter in order to hold the valves in place.
- Use the J 38606 valve spring compressor in order to compress the valve spring.
- Remove the valve stem keys (225).
- Carefully release the valve spring tension.
- Remove the J 38606 valve spring compressor.
- Remove the valve spring cap (224).
- Remove the valve spring (223).
- Remove the valve stem oil seal (222).
- Remove the valve (228).
NOTE:
Remove the spark plugs from the cylinder head with the engine at room temperature.
