Installation Procedure
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2012 GMC Yukon XL, 2012 GMC Yukon, 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2012 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2012 Chevrolet Avalanche. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Install the pitman arm if necessary. Refer to Pitman Arm Replacement .
- Position the steering gear in the vehicle.
- Install the steering gear bolts (1).
- Tighten the steering gear bolts to 150 N.m (110 lb ft).
- Connect the pitman arm to the relay rod.
- Install the pitman arm nut (1) and tighten to 62 N.m (46 lb ft).
- Connect the power steering hoses to the steering gear. Tighten the hose fittings to 32 N.m (24 lb ft).
- Connect the steering shaft coupling to the steering gear. Refer to Steering Shaft Coupling Replacement .
- Install the engine shield, if equipped. Refer to Engine Shield Replacement .
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the J-42640 Pin from the steering column.
- Fill and bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
- Remove the drain pans.
- Clean any excess fluid from the vehicle.
NOTE:
Start all of the steering gear bolts by hand and fully seat the bolts before finalizing the torque.
