Removal Procedure

- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
- For the 9.5 inch axle, drain the rear axle. Refer to Differential Oil Replacement (8.6 Inch Axle) , Differential Oil Replacement (10.5 Inch Axle) , Differential Oil Replacement (9.5LD Inch Axle) .
- Remove the rear axle housing cover bolts (1).
- Remove the rear axle housing cover (2) and the gasket (3) from the axle housing.
- If the rear axle housing cover gasket is found to be damaged, DO NOT re-use. Replace with NEW.
- Drain the remaining axle lubricant into a suitable container.
NOTE:
DO NOT nick or cut the rear axle housing cover gasket.
