Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2012 GMC Yukon XL, 2012 GMC Yukon, 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2012 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2012 Chevrolet Avalanche. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Transfer the outside door handle release rod to the new handle.
  2. Transfer the front side door outside handle lock cylinder or blank cylinder to the new handle. Refer to Door Lock Cylinder Replacement .
  3. Install the outside door handle to the door.
  4. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  5. Install the outside door handle bolts, tighten to 6 N.m (53 lb in).
  6. Install the door lock key cylinder rod to the handle, Driver side front.

    NOTE:

    When replacing the old design outside door handle rod clip in step (6) of this removal procedure with the new design clip (1) the anti rotation tab (2) will need to be removed.

  8. Install the new outside door handle rod clip (1) to the latch.
  9. Install the outside door handle rod to the clip (1) on the latch.
  10. NOTE:

    When installing the outside door handle rod to latch in order to prevent outside handle lever pre-load, the outside handle shall be fully secured to the door prior to securing integral latch clip to outside handle release rod. Push upward at the bottom the rod clip.

  11. Close the outside door handle rod clip.
  12. Inspect the door handle for proper operation before installing the trim as follows:
    1. Lock the door using key cylinder or power lock, verify that the outside handle will not release the door latch.
    2. Unlock the door using key cylinder or power lock, verify that the outside handle will release the door latch.
    3. Install the rubber grommet, trim pad electrical, inside release handle cable, trim pad.
    4. Lock and unlock the door using inside lock rod, verifying that the lock rod doesn't bind.
    5. Verify the inside handle will release the door latch.
  13. Install the front side door water deflector.
  14. Install the front side door pull handle bracket.
  15. Install the front side door trim. Refer to Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement .
