Parking Brake Shoe Replacement (1500 Series)

Parking Brake Shoe Replacement (1500 Series)

Callout Component Name
WARNING:

Refer to Brake Dust Warning .

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (1500 Series) , Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (2500 Series) .
  3. Disconnect the park brake cable from the actuator.
1 Park Brake Shoe Retaining Bolt (Qty: 2)
CAUTION:

Refer to Fastener Caution .


Tighten 
15 N.m (11 lb ft)
TIP:  Use the appropriate cleaner to clean the work area.
2 Park Brake Shoe Retaining Clip (Qty: 2)
TIP:  If the retaining clips are found to be damaged, replace the retaining clips.
3 Park Brake Shoe and Lining
  • Turn the park brake shoe adjuster screw until it is fully retracted.
  • When removing or installing the park brake shoe, place the open end of the park brake shoe over the axle flange and rotate it until the shoe has cleared the flange.
  • When installing the park brake shoe, apply a small amount of brake lubricant to the brake shoe and the backing plate contact points.
  • Adjust the park brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Adjustment (1500) , Parking Brake Adjustment (2500) .
