Rear Axle Tie Rod Replacement

Rear Axle Tie Rod Replacement

Callout Component Name
Preliminary Procedure 
Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
1 Rear Axle Tie Rod Mounting Bolt (Qty: 2)
CAUTION:

Refer to Fastener Caution .

Procedure

  1. Support the rear drive axle before removing either of the mounting bolts.
  2. Finger tighten the mounting bolt. This will allow for movement in the rear axle tie rod to align the opposite end mounting bolt and hole.

Tighten 
  • Rear Axle Tie Rod End Bolt to Frame: 85 N.m (63 lb ft) plus 125 degrees
  • Rear Axle Tie Rod End Bolt to Axle: 100 N.m (74 lb ft) plus 100 degrees
2 Rear Axle Tie Rod Lower Nut
3 Rear Axle Tie Rod Upper Nut
4 Rear Axle Tie Rod
Procedure 
Disconnect the park brake cable from the rear axle tie rod.
