Transfer Case Fluid Replacement

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the transfer case shield, if equipped. Refer to Transfer Case Shield Replacement .
1 Transfer Case Drain Plug
CAUTION:

Refer to Fastener Caution .

Procedure

  1. Allow the transfer case to drain completely.
  2. Apply sealant GM P/N 12346004, (Canadian P/N 10953480), or equivalent, to the plug threads.

TIP:  Use only hand tools to remove and install the drain plug.
Tighten 
18 N.m (13 lb ft)
2 Transfer Case Fill Plug

Procedure

  1. Fill the transfer case to the bottom of the fill plug hole with DEXRON® VI GM P/N 88861003 (Canadian P/N 88861004).
  2. Apply sealant GM P/N 12346004, (Canadian P/N 10953480), or equivalent, to the plug threads.

TIP:  Use only hand tools to remove and install the fill plug.
Tighten 
18 N.m (13 lb ft)
