Circuit/System Testing
P1B05 and P1B06 without P1AE2, P1AE3 or P1AE4
- Ignition OFF, remove the F103 drive motor generator power inverter module sight shield. Refer to Drive Motor Generator Control Module Sight Shield Replacement , and disconnect the X1 harness connector at the T6 drive motor generator power inverter module.
- Ignition OFF, wait 2 minutes. Install the F103 drive motor generator control module sight shield. Refer to Drive Motor Generator Control Module Sight Shield Replacement . Ignition ON, observe the scan tool battery energy control module HVIC Source Current parameter should read less than 5 mA.
- If greater than specified value, test for the HVIC Source and HVIC Return circuits shorted together between X1 harness connector at the T6 drive motor generator power inverter module and X350 harness connector of A4 hybrid battery pack assembly.
- Identify how to disable high voltage.
- Identify how to test for the presence of high voltage.
- Identify condition under which high voltage is always present and personal protection equipment (PPE) and proper procedures must be followed.
- Perform the High Voltage Disabling procedure and test for the HVIC Source and HVIC Return circuits shorted together between X350 harness connector at the A4 hybrid battery pack assembly and X1 harness connector at the K16 battery energy control module. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K16 battery energy control module.
- If the circuit tests normal, test for open circuit between the hybrid voltage interlock circuit return circuit terminal 1 and the hybrid voltage interlock circuit source circuit terminal 23. If the circuit tests normal, replace the T6 drive motor generator power inverter module.
DTCs P1B05 and P1B06 should always pass and fail together. If one DTC has passed while one has failed, replace the drive motor generator power inverter control module.
The drive motor generator power inverter module sight shield must be installed during all testing in order to complete the high voltage interlock circuit current loop.
Always perform the High Voltage Disabling procedure prior to servicing any High Voltage component or connection. Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and proper procedures must be followed.
The High Voltage Disabling procedure will perform the following tasks:

P1B05 and P1B06 with P1AE2
- Ignition OFF, remove the F103 drive motor generator power inverter module sight shield. Refer to Drive Motor Generator Control Module Sight Shield Replacement , and disconnect the X1 harness connector at the T6 drive motor generator power inverter module.
- Install a 3 A fused jumper wire between the hybrid voltage interlock circuit return circuit terminal 1 and the hybrid voltage interlock circuit source circuit terminal 23.
- Ignition OFF, wait 2 minutes. Install the F103 drive motor generator control module sight shield. Refer to Drive Motor Generator Control Module Sight Shield Replacement . Ignition ON, observe the scan tool HVIC Source Current parameter, the reading should be between 5-18 mA.
- If less than the specified range, Remove the 3 A fused jumper wire.
- Identify how to disable high voltage.
- Identify how to test for the presence of high voltage.
- Identify condition under which high voltage is always present and personal protection equipment (PPE) and proper procedures must be followed.
- Perform the High Voltage Disabling procedure and test hybrid voltage interlock source circuit and hybrid voltage interlock return circuit for an open/high resistance. If circuits test normal, replace the K16 battery energy control module.
- If the circuit tests normal, Test for open circuit between the hybrid voltage interlock circuit return circuit terminal 1 and the hybrid voltage interlock circuit source circuit terminal 23. If the circuit tests normal, replace the T6 drive motor generator power inverter module.

- Ignition OFF, wait 2 minutes. Install the F103 drive motor generator control module sight shield. Refer to Drive Motor Generator Control Module Sight Shield Replacement . Ignition ON, observe the scan tool battery energy control module HVIC Source Current parameter should read less than 5 mA.
- If the HVIC Source Current parameter indicates current between 5-18 mA test the HVIC Source circuit for a short to ground between X1 harness connector at the T6 drive motor generator power inverter module and X350 harness connector at the A4 hybrid battery pack assembly.
- Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the HVIC return circuit terminal 1 and the HVIC Source circuit terminal 23.
- Ignition ON, observe the scan tool battery energy control module HVIC Source Current and HVIC Return Current parameters should be between 5-18 mA.
- If both circuits test normal, replace the T6 drive motor generator power inverter module.
- If only the HVIC Source Current parameter indicates current between 5-18 mA test the hybrid voltage interlock return circuit for a short to ground between X1 harness connector at the T6 drive motor generator power inverter module and X350 harness connector at the A4 hybrid battery pack assembly.
- Identify how to disable high voltage.
- Identify how to test for the presence of high voltage.

- Ignition OFF, remove the F103 drive motor generator power inverter module sight shield. Refer to Drive Motor Generator Control Module Sight Shield Replacement , and disconnect the X1 harness connector at the T6 drive motor generator power inverter module.
- Ignition OFF, wait 2 minutes. Install the F103 drive motor generator control module sight shield. Refer to Drive Motor Generator Control Module Sight Shield Replacement . Ignition ON, test for less than 35 mA between the hybrid voltage interlock source circuit terminal 23 and ground.
- If more than the specified range, test the hybrid voltage interlock source circuit for a short to voltage between X1 harness connector at the T6 drive motor generator power inverter module and X350 harness connector at the A4 hybrid battery pack assembly.
- Ignition ON, test for less than 35 mA with a DMM between the hybrid voltage interlock return circuit terminal 1 and ground.
- If more than the specified range, test the hybrid voltage interlock return circuit for a short to voltage between X1 harness connector at the T6 drive motor generator power inverter module and X350 harness connector at the A4 hybrid battery pack assembly.
NOTE:Removal of the high voltage manual disconnect lever also opens the HVIC source circuit between X350 and battery energy control module connector X1.
- Identify how to disable high voltage.
- Identify how to test for the presence of high voltage.
- Identify condition under which high voltage is always present and personal protection equipment (PPE) and proper procedures must be followed.
- Perform the High Voltage Disabling procedure and test the HVIC Return circuit for a short to voltage between X350 harness connector at the A4 hybrid battery pack assembly and X1 harness connector at the K16 battery energy control module. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K16 battery energy control module.
- Replace the T6 drive motor generator power inverter module.
DTCs P1B05 and P1B06 should always pass and fail together. If one DTC has passed while one has failed, replace the drive motor generator power inverter control module.
