Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the power steering pump pulley. Refer to Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacement (4.3L, 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, 6.2L) .
  2. Remove as much power steering fluid from the power steering fluid reservoir as possible.
  3. Disconnect the steering shaft coupling from the steering gear. Refer to Steering Shaft Coupling Replacement .
  4. Remove the engine shield. Refer to Engine Shield Replacement .
  5. Place drain pans under the vehicle as needed.

  6. Disconnect the power steering gear inlet hose (2) from the power steering pump assembly from underneath the vehicle.

  7. Disconnect the power steering fluid cooler hose clamp (5) and the power steering fluid cooler hose (4) from the power steering pump assembly (1).
  8. If equipped with hydroboost, disconnect the power brake booster outlet hose clamp (3) and disconnect the power brake booster outlet hose (2) from power steering pump assembly (1).

  9. Remove the power steering pump bracket bolt from the side of the engine.
  10. Remove the power steering pump bolts.
  11. Remove the power steering pump assembly from the vehicle.
  12. Transfer any parts as needed.
