Disassembly Procedure
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2011 GMC Yukon XL, 2011 GMC Yukon, 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2011 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Remove the power steering pump assembly from the vehicle. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement (4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, and 6.2L) .
- Remove the power steering fluid reservoir studs (2) from the power steering pump assembly (1).
- Remove the power steering pump fitting (4).
- Remove the power steering pump fitting seal (3).
- Remove the power steering pump flow control valve (2) and the power steering pump flow control valve spring (3) from the power steering pump assembly (1).
- Separate the power steering fluid reservoir (1) and the power steering pump (2).
- Remove the power steering pump seals (1, 4, 5).
- Remove and clean the power steering fluid reservoir magnet (3).
- Inspect the welch plug in the power steering pump (2). DO NOT REMOVE IT. If the welch plug is deformed or dislodged then replace the power steering pump (2).
