Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2011 GMC Yukon XL, 2011 GMC Yukon, 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2011 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove the differential assembly. Refer to Differential Replacement (10.5 Inch Axle) , Differential Replacement (8.6, 9.5/9.5 LD Inch Axles) .

  3. Remove the differential side bearings by doing the following:
    1. For the 8.6 inch axle, install the differential assembly into a vise.
    2. For the 10.5 inch axle, place a block of wood on each side of the differential assembly.

      Install the differential assembly into a vise.

    3. For the 8.6 inch axle, install the J 22888-20A  puller (2) and the J 8107-4  plug (1) over the differential case side bearing bore.
    4. Using the J 22888-20A  puller (2), and the J 8107-4  plug (1) or the J 36597  pilot (1), remove the differential side bearings.
