Parking Brake Shoe Inspection

WARNING:

Refer to Brake Dust Warning .

Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
Remove the rear brake caliper bracket with the rear brake caliper. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement (1500 Series) , Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement (2500 Series) .

NOTE:

DO NOT apply the park brake pedal with the rotors removed.

Remove the rear brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (1500 Series) , Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (2500 Series) .
Inspect and replace the park brake shoe and lining if any of the following conditions are found:
- Excessive wear indicated by the park brake lining being worn down to the shoe
- Park brake lining cracking
- Oil or fluid contamination of the park brake lining
Adjust the park brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Adjustment (1500 Without JNC) .
Install the rear brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (1500 Series) , Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (2500 Series) .
Install the rear brake caliper with the rear brake caliper bracket. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement (1500 Series) , Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement (2500 Series) .
Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
Lower the vehicle.
