Impact Sensors

This vehicle contains anywhere from 1-6 impact sensors depending on option content The options are as follows:

SUV has 6 impact sensors: 2 in the front and 4 in the doors
Light Duty Regular Cab has 4 impact sensors: 2 in the front and 2 in the doors
Light Duty Extended Cab has 6 impact sensors: 2 in the front and 4 in the doors
Light Duty Crew Cab has 6 impact sensors: 2 in the front and 4 in the doors
Heavy Duty Regular Cab has 1 or 3 impact sensors: one, in the center front, or three, one in the center and two in the doors
Heavy Duty Extended Crew Cab has 1 or 5 impact sensors: one, in the center front, or three, one in the center and four in the doors
Wiring Repairs

To view the locations of the impact sensors refer to SIR Identification Views . The impact sensors contain a sensing device which monitors vehicle acceleration and velocity changes to detect side collisions that are severe enough to warrant air bag deployment. The impact sensors are not part of the deployment loop, but instead provide input to the SDM. The SDM contains a microprocessor that performs calculations using the measured accelerations and compares these calculations to a value stored in memory. When the generated calculations exceed the stored value, the SDM will cause current to flow through the deployment loops deploying the appropriate air bags.
