Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2008 GMC Yukon XL, 2008 GMC Yukon, 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2008 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
IMPORTANT: A special anti-seize compound is used on the HO2S threads. The compound consists of liquid graphite and glass beads. The graphite tends to burn away, but the glass beads remain, making the sensor easier to remove. New, or service replacement sensors already have the compound applied to the threads. If the sensor is removed from as exhaust component and if for any reason the sensor is to be reinstalled, the threads must have anti-seize compound applied before the reinstallation.

    NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice .
  1. Install the HO2S sensors (1 through 5) to the catalytic converter pipe. Apply anti-seize compound GM P/N 12377953, or equivalent to the threads of the HO2S sensors.

    Tighten:  Tighten the HO2S sensors to 42 N.m (31 lb ft).

  2. Install NEW exhaust manifold seals (2 and 3).
  3. Install the catalytic converter pipe to the exhaust manifolds.
  4. Install the catalytic converter pipe to exhaust manifold nuts (1).

    Tighten:  Tighten the catalytic converter nuts (1) to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

  5. Install the catalytic converter pipe to resonator pipe nuts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the catalytic converter nuts to 45 N.m (33 lb ft).

  6. If equipped with Norma (band) clamp, tighten the clamp bolt (1).

    Tighten:  Tighten the band clamp bolt to 44 N.m(32 lb ft).

  7. Install the transmission crossmember. Refer to Transmission Support Crossmember Replacement (4WD 2500 series) or Transmission Support Crossmember Replacement (2WD 1500 series) or Transmission Support Crossmember Replacement (2WD 2500 series) or Transmission Support Crossmember Replacement (4WD 1500 series) .
  8. Connect the HO2S sensors harness connectors. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Bank 1 Sensor 1 , Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Bank 1 Sensor 2 , Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Bank 2 Sensor 1 and Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Bank 2 Sensor 2 .
  9. Install the oil pan skid plate if equipped. Refer to Oil Pan Skid Plate Replacement (2500/3500 with RPO NZZ) or Oil Pan Skid Plate Replacement (1500 with RPO NZZ) .
  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Inspect for exhaust leaks.
