Assembly Procedure

  1. Install the new steering gear pitman shaft housing cover O-ring (4).
  2. Install the steering gear pitman shaft housing cover (3).
  3. Install the steering gear pitman shaft lash adjuster nut (2).
  4. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice .
  5. Install the steering gear pitman shaft housing cover bolts (1).

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 62 N.m (46 lb ft).

  7. Install the pitman arm washer (2).
  8. Install the pitman arm nut (3).

    Tighten:  Tighten the nut to 250 N.m (184 lb ft).

  9. If necessary adjust the steering gear pitman shaft over-center preload. Refer to Steering Gear Pitman Shaft Over-Center Preload Adjustment - Off Vehicle .
  10. Install the steering gear. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement (Rack and Pinion)  or Steering Gear Replacement (Non-Rack and Pinion)  or Steering Gear Replacement (Two Mode Hybrid) .
