Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2008 GMC Yukon XL, 2008 GMC Yukon, 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2008 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the rear axle cover. Refer to Rear Axle Housing Cover and Gasket Replacement (8.6 Inch axle)  or Rear Axle Housing Cover and Gasket Replacement (10.5 Inch Axle) .
  2. Fill the rear axle with axle lubricant. Use the proper fluid. Refer to Approximate Fluid Capacities and Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers .

    NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice .
  3. Install the rear axle fill plug.

    Tighten:  Tighten the rear axle fill plug to 33 N.m (24 lb ft).

  4. Lower the vehicle.
