Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the differential assembly. Refer to Differential Replacement (10.5 Inch Axle)  or Differential Replacement (8.6 Inch Axle) .
  3. Remove the pinion gear bearing retainer. Refer to Drive Pinion Housing and/or Seal Replacement .
  4. Remove the drive pinion and the pinion bearings. Refer to Drive Pinion Housing and/or Seal Replacement .

  5. Remove the ring gear bolts. Discard the bolts.
    6. NOTE: Refer to Ring Gear Removal Notice .
  6. Remove the ring gear from the differential. Drive the gear off with a brass drift if necessary.
