Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2008 GMC Yukon XL, 2008 GMC Yukon, 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2008 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove the differential assembly. Refer to Differential Replacement (10.5 Inch Axle)  or Differential Replacement (8.6 Inch Axle) .

  3. Remove the differential side bearings by doing the following:
    1. For the 8.6 inch axle, install the differential assembly into a vise.
    2. For the 10.5 inch axle, place a block of wood on each side of the differential assembly.

      Install the differential assembly into a vise.

    3. For the 8.6 inch axle, install the J 22888-20A  (2) and the J 8107-4  (1) over the differential case side bearing bore. See Special Tools .
    4. Using the J 22888-20A  (2), and the J 8107-4  (1) or the J 36597  (1), remove the differential side bearings. See Special Tools .
