Parking Brake Shoe Replacement (1500 Series)

Callout Component Name
CAUTION: Refer to Brake Dust Caution .

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (1500 Series) or Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (2500 Series) .
  3. Disconnect the park brake cable from the actuator.
1 Bolt, Park Brake Shoe Retaining (Qty: 2)
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice .

Tighten:  15 N.m (11 lb ft)


Tip:  Use the appropriate cleaner to clean the work area.
2 Clip, Park Brake Shoe Retaining (Qty: 2)
Tip:  If the retaining clips are found to be damaged, replace the retaining clips.
3 Shoe and Lining, Park Brake
Tip: 
  • Turn the park brake shoe adjuster screw until it is fully retracted.
  • When removing or installing the park brake shoe, place the open end of the park brake shoe over the axle flange and rotate it until the shoe has cleared the flange.
  • When installing the park brake shoe, apply a small amount of brake lubricant to the brake shoe and the backing plate contact points.
  • Adjust the park brake shoe. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
