Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Support the rear axle independently in order to relieve the tension on the leaf springs.
  3. Remove the trailer hitch, if equipped. Refer to Trailer Hitch Replacement .
  4. Remove the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Replacement (1500 LWB - 117.3L (31 gal) Tank) or Fuel Tank Replacement (1500 LWB - 117.3L (31 gal) Tank + E85) or Fuel Tank Replacement (1500 SWB - 98.4L (26 gal) Tank) or Fuel Tank Replacement (1500 SWB - 98.4L (26 gal) Tank + E85) or Fuel Tank Replacement (2500 LWB - 43.5L (11.5 gal) Tank-Rear) or Fuel Tank Replacement (2500 LWB - 98.4L (26 gal) Tank-Front) .
  5. Fig 1: Identifying U-Bolts

  6. Remove the U-bolt nuts.
  7. Remove the U-bolts.
  8. Remove the spring spacer.
  9. Remove the anchor plate.

  11. Remove the rear spring bracket nut and bolt.

  13. Remove the front spring bracket nut and bolt.
  14. Remove the leaf spring assembly from the vehicle.
