Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement

Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement

Callout Component Name
Preliminary Procedure: 
Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
1 Outer Tie Rod Nut
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice .

Tighten:  60 N.m (44 lb ft)

2 Outer Tie Rod Jam Nut

Tighten:  75 N.m (55 lb ft)

3 Outer Tie Rod
Tip: 
  • Use the J 24319-B  , to separate the outer tie rod ball stud from the steering knuckle. See Special Tools .
  • Inspect the inner tie rod for bent or damaged threads.
  • Clean the tapered surface of the steering knuckle.
  • Lubricate the tie rod threads with chassis lubricant. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations
  • Adjust the front toe. Refer to Measuring Wheel Alignment
