Power Steering Gear Outlet Pipe/Hose Replacement (Without Hydroboost)

Tool Required: J 44586 Power Steering Gear Oil Seal Remover/Installer. See Special Tools . Preliminary Procedures Place a suitable drain pan under the vehicle. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle . Remove the engine protection shield. Refer to Engine Shield Replacement .
1	Power Steering Return Hose Clamp Tip: Release the return hose clamp and position it off of the hose. Pull the return hose off of the cooler pipe.
2	Power Steering Hose Assembly Bolt (at rack and pinion) NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice . Tighten: 12 N.m (106 lb in) Tip: Remove the bolt from the rack and pinion.
3	Power Steering Hose Assembly Tip: Pull the hose assembly out of the rack and pinion Keep the area around the power steering hoses and power steering gear openings clean. Refer to Power Steering Hose Disconnected Notice .
4	Power Steering Return Hose Tip: Use the J 44586 to replace the power steering gear oil seals if necessary. See Special Tools . Fill and bleed the power steering system upon completion of the repair. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
