Squeak or Rattle Noise from Rear Liftgate (Remove Material/Adjust Striker)

TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN

Condition 1

Some customers may comment on a squeak noise in the rear of the vehicle when driving over rough roads.

Condition 2

Some customers may comment on a rattle noise in the rear of the vehicle when driving over rough roads.

Cause 1

A rubber closeout strip between the bumper and body may be making contact with the liftgate as seen in illustration above.

Cause 2

The liftgate latch may be making hard contact with the striker.

Correction 1

1. Open the liftgate.

2. Mark the filler strip at the end of the tail gate opening as seen in illustration above.

3. Remove the filler strip and cut the excess material off as seen in illustration above.

4. Install the filler strip.

Correction 2

Adjust the liftgate strikers. Refer to Lock Striker Adjustment (SI Document ID #1080911).
