Gauges System Description
Self-Diagnostic Function
The gauge control module is equipped with a function to self-diagnose the internal circuits of the gauge control module.
Speedometer and Tachometer
The TCM provides a vehicle speed signal to the gauge control module using the F-CAN. Based on this input, the gauge control module displays the current vehicle speed in the speedometer. The PCM provides an engine speed signal to the gauge control module using the F-CAN. Based on this input, the gauge control module displays the current engine speed in the tachometer.
Fuel Gauge and Fuel Indicator
The gauge control module displays the fuel gauge based on input value from the fuel gauge sending unit (fuel tank unit). The low fuel indicator turns on in the event that the fuel gauge becomes lower than the minimum tank fill threshold.
Multi-Information Display (MID)
The multi-information display (MID) provides the ODO/trip meter, outside air temperature, average fuel economy, available cruising range, instant fuel economy, integrated drive-mode information, shift position indicator, seat belt reminder, and the status of the keyless access system. In addition, the diagnostic function displays the communication errors and the DTCs.
Odometer Meter and Trip Meter
The TCM provides a vehicle speed signal to the gauge control module using F-CAN. Based on this input, the gauge control module tracks mileage for the odometer and trip meters. The mileage values are displayed in the multi-information display (MID).
Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge
The PCM provides an engine coolant temperature signal to the gauge control module using the F-CAN. When the engine coolant temperature is high, the gauge control module displays the warning in the multi-information display (MID).
Outside Air Temperature Gauge
The gauge control module uses the temperature sensor signal from the climate control unit via the B-CAN. The outside air temperature indicator's displayed temperature can be recalibrated
5°F (
3°C) to meet the client's expectations.
Average Fuel Economy Records, Average Fuel Economy/Instant Fuel Economy, Range, Elapsed Time Display, Average Speed Display
The gauge control module receives signals such as fuel consumption, driving distance, vehicle speed, and engine speed from the TCM and the PCM via F-CAN. It calculates average fuel economy records, average/instant fuel economy, elapsed time, average speed, and range.
Gauge Control Module Receiving Information
The gauge control module receives information from each control unit via the F-CAN and the B-CAN to light or flash the indicators. The VSA modulator-control unit (indicator signal), idle stop off switch, automatic brake hold switch, ACC combination switch, VSA OFF switch, integrated drive-mode system switch, hill descent control switch, fuel gauge sending unit, washer fluid level switch*1, and brake fluid level switch are connected directly to the gauge control module. The audio remote-HFL switch signal is received via the LIN, and the head up display*2 related signal is transmitted via the UART line.

*2: With head up display
Keyless Access System Information
The gauge control module receives information from the body control module via the B-CAN to display status of the keyless access system.
Buzzer
The gauge control module includes a buzzer to provide the driver with audible warnings.
Illumination Control
The illumination brightness can be adjusted using the setting screen of the multi-information display (MID). When the exterior lights are off, the system is off.
Seat Belt Reminder
When the gauge control module receives the seat belt buckle switch signal from the SRS unit and each door switch signal from the body control module, the seat belt reminder sounds the alarm, turns on/blinks the seat belt warning light and displays the seat belt icon. If any seat belt transitions from buckled state to unbuckled state, the seat belt reminder turns on the seat belt warning light and displays the seat belt icon while the vehicle stops, or sounds the alarm, blinks the seat belt warning light and displays the seat belt icon while the vehicle runs.
Integrated Drive-Mode System
The integrated drive-mode system enables 7 driving modes* to be selected (Tow, Sand, Trail, Snow, Econ, Normal, and Sport). If a driver operates the integrated drive-mode system switch, the system adjusts the electric power steering - Refer to: EPS System Description () or EPS System Description - System Diagram () or EPS System Description - Components () , the SH-AWD system, the VSA system, and the PGM-FI system.
*: The control mode may be different, depending on the model.
