i-VTM SYSTEM - HDS DOES NOT COMMUNICATE (2016 2017 2018)
- HDS communication check
-1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
- 2. Check that the HDS communicates with the vehicle.
Does the HDS communicate with the vehicle?
YES
The HDS communication is OK. Go to step 2.
NO
Go to the DLC Circuit Troubleshooting (2016 2017 2018) .
- i-VTM system communication check
-1. Check the Mode Menu of the i-VTM with the HDS.
Does the HDS show the Mode Menu of the i-VTM?
YES
The i-VTM system communication is OK. Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.
NO
Go to step 3.
- Fuses check
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Check the following fuses.
Fuse No. B1-7 (20 A) Location Auxiliary under-hood fuse/relay box Fuse No. C28 (10 A) Location Under-dash fuse/relay box Fuse No. B1-6 (30 A) Location Auxiliary under-hood fuse/relay box Are the fuses OK?
YES
The fuses are OK. Reinstall the fuses, then go to step 4.
NO
Replace the fuse, and recheck. If the fuse blows again, repair a short to ground in the No. B1-7 (20 A), No.C28 (10A) and No. B1-6 (30 A) fuse circuit.
- Left rear differential fluid pressure sensor check
-1. Disconnect the following connector.
Left rear differential fluid pressure sensor 3P connector - 2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
- 3. Check the Mode Menu of the i-VTM with the HDS.
Does the HDS show the Mode Menu of the i-VTM?
YES
The left rear differential fluid pressure sensor is OK. Go to step 5.
NO
Replace the LEFT Rear Differential Fluid Pressure Sensor .
- Right rear differential fluid pressure sensor check
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Disconnect the following connector.
Right rear differential fluid pressure sensor 3P connector - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
- 4. Check the Mode Menu of the i-VTM with the HDS.
Does the HDS show the Mode Menu of the i-VTM?
YES
The right rear differential fluid pressure sensor is OK. Go to step 6.
NO
Replace the RIGHT Rear Differential Fluid Pressure Sensor .
- Open wire check (IG1 OPTION line)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Disconnect the following connector.
i-VTM control unit 24P connector - 3. Start the engine.
- 4. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle ON mode (idling) Left rear differential fluid pressure sensor 3P connector: disconnected Right rear differential fluid pressure sensor 3P connector: disconnected i-VTM control unit 24P connector: disconnected Test point 1 i-VTM control unit 24P connector No. 12 - Go to: i-VTM Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018) Test point 2 Body ground Is there battery voltage?
YES
The IG1 OPTION wire is OK. Go to step 7.
NO
Repair an open in the IG1 OPTION wire between the i-VTM control unit and the No. B1-6 (30 A) fuse in the auxiliary under-hood fuse/relay box and/or No. C28 (10A) under-dash fuse/relay box.
- Open wire check (+B 4WD line)
-1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle ON mode (idling) Left rear differential fluid pressure sensor 3P connector: disconnected Right rear differential fluid pressure sensor 3P connector: disconnected i-VTM control unit 24P connector: disconnected Test point 1 i-VTM control unit 24P connector No. 1 - Go to: i-VTM Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018) Test point 2 Body ground Is there battery voltage?
YES
The +B 4WD wire is OK. Go to step 8.
NO
Repair an open in the +B 4WD wire between the i-VTM control unit and the No. B1-7 (20 A) auxiliary under-hood fuse/relay box.
- Open wire check (GND line)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Left rear differential fluid pressure sensor 3P connector: disconnected Right rear differential fluid pressure sensor 3P connector: disconnected i-VTM control unit 24P connector: disconnected Test point 1 i-VTM control unit 24P connector No. 4 - Go to: i-VTM Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018) Test point 2 Body ground Is there continuity?
YES
The GND wire is OK. Go to step 9.
NO
Repair an open in the GND wire between the i-VTM control unit and ground (G701).
- Shorted wire check (SVCC2 line)
-1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Left rear differential fluid pressure sensor 3P connector: disconnected Right rear differential fluid pressure sensor 3P connector: disconnected i-VTM control unit 24P connector: disconnected Test point 1 i-VTM control unit 24P connector No. 8 - Go to: i-VTM Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018) Test point 2 Body ground Is there continuity?
YES
Repair a short to ground in the SVCC2 wire between the i-VTM control unit and the left rear differential fluid pressure sensor.
NO
The SVCC2 wire is OK. Go to step 10.
- Shorted wire check (SVCC1 line)
-1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Left rear differential fluid pressure sensor 3P connector: disconnected Right rear differential fluid pressure sensor 3P connector: disconnected i-VTM control unit 24P connector: disconnected Test point 1 i-VTM control unit 24P connector No. 19 - Go to: i-VTM Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018) Test point 2 Body ground Is there continuity?
YES
Repair a short to ground in the SVCC1 wire between the i-VTM control unit and the right rear differential fluid pressure sensor.
NO
The SVCC1 wire is OK. Go to step 11.
- Open wire check [F-CAN_H, F-CAN_L lines (6-Speed A/T) or F-CAN A_H, F-CAN A_L lines (9-Speed A/T)]
-1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Left rear differential fluid pressure sensor 3P connector: disconnected Right rear differential fluid pressure sensor 3P connector: disconnected i-VTM control unit 24P connector: disconnected Test point 1 i-VTM control unit 24P connector No. 14 - Go to: i-VTM Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018) . Test point 2 DLC (16P) No. 6 Test point 1 i-VTM control unit 24P connector No. 24 - Go to: i-VTM Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018) . Test point 2 DLC (16P) No. 14 Is there continuity?
YES
Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting or substitute a known-good i-VTM Control Unit .
NO
Repair an open in the F-CAN_L (6-Speed A/T), F-CAN A_L (9-Speed A/T) and/or F-CAN_H (6-Speed A/T), F-CAN A_H (9-Speed A/T) wire between the i-VTM control unit and the DLC.
