ABS INDICATOR, BRAKE SYSTEM INDICATOR (RED), VSA INDICATOR, AND BRAKE SYSTEM INDICATOR (AMBER) DO NOT GO OFF [Without Auto Idle Stop System] (2019 2020 2021)

NOTE: 

  1. All DTCs check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 2. All DTCs check with the HDS.

    All DTCs

    Are there DTCs indicated?

    YES 

    Go to indicated DTC's troubleshooting.

    NO 

    Go to step 2.

  2. Fuse check 1

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Check the following fuse.

    Fuse No. A1-4 - Refer to:
    Fuse to Components Index (Without Auto Idle Stop System) (2016 2017 2018) or
    Fuse to Components Index (Touring (2016 2017 2018) or
    Fuse to Components Index (With Auto Idle Stop System) (2019 2020 2021) or
    Fuse to Components Index (Without Auto Idle Stop System) (2019 2020 2021) .

    Is the fuse OK?

    YES 

    The fuse is OK. Reinstall the fuse, then go to step 3.

    NO 

    Replace the fuse. If the fuse blows again, repair a short to ground in the No. A1-4 fuse circuit.

  3. Fuse check 2

    -1. Check the following fuse.

    Fuse No. C9 - Refer to:
    Fuse to Components Index (Without Auto Idle Stop System) (2016 2017 2018) or
    Fuse to Components Index (Touring (2016 2017 2018) or
    Fuse to Components Index (With Auto Idle Stop System) (2019 2020 2021) or
    Fuse to Components Index (Without Auto Idle Stop System) (2019 2020 2021) .

    Is the fuse OK?

    YES 

    The fuse is OK. Reinstall the fuse, then go to step 4.

    NO 

    Replace the fuse. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then to the OFF (LOCK) mode. If the fuse blows again, repair a short to ground in the No. C9 fuse circuit.

  4. Open wire check (IG1 VSA line)

    -1. Disconnect the following connector.

    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector

    - 2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 3. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle ON mode
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 11 - Refer to:
    VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2019 2020 2021)  or
    VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018) .
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    The IG1 VSA wire is OK. Go to step 5.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the under-dash fuse/relay box and the VSA modulator-control unit.

  5. Open wire check (FSR +B line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 4 - Refer to:
    VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018)  or
    VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2019 2020 2021) .
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    The FSR +B wire is OK. Go to step 6.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the main under-hood fuse box and the VSA modulator-control unit.

  6. Open wire check (PGND line)

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 1 - Refer to:
    VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018)  or
    VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2019 2020 2021) 
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES: Without CAN gateway system

    The PGND wire is OK. Go to step 7.

    YES: With CAN gateway system

    The PGND wire is OK. Go to step 8.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the VSA modulator-control unit and body ground (G203).

  7. Open wire check (F-CAN_H, F-CAN_L lines)

    -1. Disconnect the following connector.

    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector
    Gauge control module connector A (32P)

    - 2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
    Gauge control module connector A (32P): disconnected
    Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 6 - Refer to:
    VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018)  or
    VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2019 2020 2021) 
    Test point 2 Gauge control module 32P connector No. 24 - Refer to:
    Gauge Control Module Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018) or
    Gauge Control Module Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2019) or
    Gauge Control Module Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2020 2021)
    Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 7 - Refer to:
    VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018)  or
    VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2019 2020 2021) 
    Test point 2 Gauge control module 32P connector No. 24 - Refer to:
    Gauge Control Module Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018) or
    Gauge Control Module Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2019) or
    Gauge Control Module Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2020 2021)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The F-CAN_H and the F-CAN_L wires are OK. Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting or substitute a known-good VSA modulator-control unit .

    NO 

    Repair an open in the F-CAN_H and/or the F-CAN_L wire(s) between the gauge control module and the VSA modulator-control unit.

  8. F-CAN circuit communication check

    -1. Reconnect the following connector.

    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector

    - 2. Select the FUNCTION TEST in the CAN gateway with the HDS, then select the F-CAN Bus Connected Unit Check.

    Which result is indicated?

    Gauge control module (Bus A) is Not Available

    Go to step 9.

    VSA modulator-control unit (Bus A) is Not Available

    Go to step 10.

    VSA modulator-control unit and gauge control module are Available

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Refer to intermittent failures troubleshooting .

  9. Open wire check (F-CAN A_H, F-CAN A_L lines) 1

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    Gauge control module connector A (32P)
    CAN gateway 16p connector

    - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Gauge control module connector A (32P): disconnected
    CAN gateway 16P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit 1
    Test point 1 Gauge control module 32P connector No. 24 - Refer to:
    Gauge Control Module Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018) or
    Gauge Control Module Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2019) or
    Gauge Control Module Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2020 2021)
    Test point 2 CAN gateway 16P connector (female terminals) No. 3:
    Test circuit 2
    Test point 1 Gauge control module 32P connector No. 24 - Refer to:
    Gauge Control Module Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018) or
    Gauge Control Module Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2019) or
    Gauge Control Module Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2020 2021)
    Test point 2 CAN gateway 16P connector (female terminals) No. 11:

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The F-CAN A_H and the F-CAN A_L wires are OK. Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting or substitute a known-good gauge control module , then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good gauge control module, replace the original gauge control module .

    NO 

    Repair an open in the F-CAN A_H and/or the F-CAN A_L wire(s) between the gauge control module and the CAN gateway.

  10. Open wire check (F-CAN A_H, F-CAN A_L lines) 2

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector
    CAN gateway 16P connector

    - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
    CAN gateway 16P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit 1
    Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 6 - Refer to:
    VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2019 2020 2021)  or
    VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018) 
    Test point 2 CAN gateway 16P connector (female terminals) No. 3:
    Test circuit 2
    Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 7 - Refer to:
    VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018)  or
    VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2019 2020 2021) 
    Test point 2 CAN gateway 16P connector (female terminals) No. 11:

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The F-CAN A_H and F-CAN A_L wires are OK. Replace the VSA modulator-control unit .

    NO 

    Repair an open in the F-CAN A_H and/or the F-CAN A_L wire(s) between the VSA modulator-control unit and the CAN gateway.
