DTC : B1386 (2019 2020 2021)

DTC B1386  : Power Tailgate Sensor Pulse A Circuit Malfunction

• NOTE:  If you are troubleshooting multiple DTCs, be sure to follow the instructions in B-CAN System Diagnosis Test Mode A - Initial Communication and DTC Checks .
• If the motor does not operate, do the Power Tailgate Motor Test first.

DTCs (Power Tailgate Control Unit)

1. Problem verification 1

   - 1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

   Clear DTCs

   - 2. Open the tailgate with the tailgate outer handle switch.

   - 3. Close the tailgate automatically with the keyless remote or power tailgate inside switch.

   - 4. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

   B1386 Power Tailgate Sensor Pulse A Circuit Malfunction

   Is DTC B1386 indicated?

   YES 

   Go to step 2.

   NO 

   Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections.

2. Problem verification 2

   - 1. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

   DTC Description	DTC
   B1387 Power Tailgate Sensor Pulse A Circuit Malfunction

   Is DTC B1387 indicated?

   YES 

   Go to step 3.

   NO 

   Go to step 4.

3. Shorted wire check (PTG SVCC line)

   - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

   - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

   Power tailgate drive unit connector B (6P)

   - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

   Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Power tailgate drive unit connector B (6P): disconnected
   Test point 1	Power tailgate drive unit connector B (6P) (male terminals) No. 1: (1)
   Test point 2	Body ground

   Is there continuity?

   YES 

   Repair a short to ground in the wire.

   NO 

   Replace the Power Tailgate Control Unit .

4. Determine possible failure area (power tailgate sensor, others)

   - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

   - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

   Power tailgate drive unit connector B (6P)

   - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

   - 4. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

   Test condition	Vehicle ON mode Power tailgate drive unit connector B (6P): disconnected
   Test point 1	Power tailgate drive unit connector B (6P) (male terminals) No. 4: (1)
   Test point 2	Body ground

   Is there about 5 V?

   YES 

   Faulty power tailgate sensor; replace the power tailgate drive unit - Go to: Tailgate Support Strut (With Power Tailgate) .

   NO 

   Go to step 5.

5. Shorted wire check (PTG SENA line)

   - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

   - 2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

   Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Power tailgate drive unit connector B (6P): disconnected
   Test point 1	Power tailgate drive unit connector B (6P) (male terminals) No. 4: (1)
   Test point 2	Body ground

   Is there continuity?

   YES 

   Repair a short to ground in the wire.

   NO 

   Go to step 6.

6. Open wire check (PTG SENA line)

   - 1. Disconnect the following connector.

   Power tailgate control unit connector A (24P)

   - 2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

   Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Power tailgate drive unit connector B (6P): disconnected Power tailgate control unit connector A (24P): disconnected
   Test point 1	Power tailgate drive unit connector B (6P) (male terminals) No. 4: (1)
   Test point 2	Power tailgate control unit connector A (24P) No. 3 - Refer to: Power Tailgate Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2019 2020 2021)

   Is there continuity?

   YES 

   Replace the Power Tailgate Control Unit .

   NO 

   Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.
