DTC : B1385 (2019 2020 2021)

DTC B1385  : Power tailgate temperature sensor malfunction

NOTE:  If you are troubleshooting multiple DTCs, be sure to follow the instructions in B-CAN System Diagnosis Test Mode A - Initial Communication and DTC Checks .

B1385 Power tailgate temperature sensor malfunction  

DTCs (Power Tailgate Control Unit)

  1. Problem verification

    - 1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

    Clear DTCs

    - 2. Open the tailgate with the tailgate outer handle switch.

    - 3. Close the tailgate manually.

    - 4. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    DTC Description DTC
    B1385 Power tailgate temperature sensor malfunction  

    Is DTC B1385 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 2.

    NO 

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections between the power tailgate control unit and the power tailgate closer unit.

  2. Shorted wire check (TEMP SNSR line)

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Power tailgate left pinch sensor 4P connector
    Power tailgate control unit connector B (10P)

    - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Power tailgate left pinch sensor 4P connector: disconnected
    Power tailgate control unit connector B (10P): disconnected
    Test point 1 Power tailgate left pinch sensor 4P connector (male terminals) No. 4: (1)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Repair a short to ground in the wire.

    NO 

    Go to step 3.

  3. Shorted wire check (PTG SEG2 line)

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Power tailgate left pinch sensor 4P connector
    Power tailgate control unit connector B (10P)

    - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Power tailgate left pinch sensor 4P connector: disconnected
    Power tailgate control unit connector B (10P): disconnected
    Test point 1 Power tailgate left pinch sensor 4P connector (male terminals) No. 2: (1)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Repair a short to ground in the wire.

    NO 

    Go to step 4.

  4. Open wire check (TEMP SNSR line)

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Power tailgate left pinch sensor 4P connector
    Power tailgate control unit connector B (10P)

    - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Power tailgate left pinch sensor 4P connector: disconnected
    Power tailgate control unit connector B (10P): disconnected
    Test point 1 Power tailgate left pinch sensor 4P connector (male terminals) No. 4: (1)
    Test point 2 Power tailgate control unit connector B (10P) No. 1 -

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Go to step 5.

    NO 

    Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.

  5. Open wire check (PTG SEG2 line)

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Power tailgate left pinch sensor 4P connector
    Power tailgate control unit connector B (10P)

    - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Power tailgate left pinch sensor 4P connector: disconnected
    Power tailgate control unit connector B (10P): disconnected
    Test point 1 Power tailgate left pinch sensor 4P connector (male terminals) No. 2: (1)
    Test point 2 Power tailgate control unit connector B (10P) No. 8 -

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Go to step 6.

    NO 

    Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.

  6. Thermistor check

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Power tailgate left pinch sensor 4P connector

    - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Power tailgate left pinch sensor 4P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 Power tailgate left pinch sensor 4P connector (male terminals) No. 2: (1)
    Test point 2 Power tailgate left pinch sensor 4P connector (male terminals) No. 4: (1)

    Is resistance value within the range?

    YES 

    Replace the Power Tailgate Control Unit .

    NO 

    Faulty thermistor, replace the Power Tailgate Left Pinch Sensor .
