DTC B1383  : Tailgate Closer Unit Ratchet switch circuit malfunction

B1383 Tailgate Closer Unit Ratchet switch circuit malfunction  

DTCs (Power Tailgate Control Unit)

NOTE:  If you are troubleshooting multiple DTCs, be sure to follow the instructions in B-CAN System Diagnosis Test Mode A - Initial Communication and DTC Checks .

  1. Problem verification

    - 1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

    Clear DTCs

    - 2. Open the tailgate with the tailgate outer handle switch.

    - 3. Close the tailgate manually.

    - 4. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    DTC Description DTC
    B1383 Tailgate Closer Unit Ratchet switch circuit malfunction  

    Is DTC B1383 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 2.

    NO 

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections between the power tailgate control unit and the power tailgate closer unit.

  2. Determine possible failure area (PTG RACT line short, others)

    - 1. Check the parameter(s) below with the HDS.

    Signal Current conditions
    Values Unit
    Tailgate Lock Sw. Ratchet    

    Is data list value ON?

    YES 

    Go to step 3.

    NO 

    Go to step 5.

  3. Determine possible failure area (power tailgate closer unit, others)

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Power tailgate closer unit connector B (6P)

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 4. Check the parameter(s) below with the HDS.

    Signal Current conditions
    Values Unit
    Tailgate Lock Sw. Ratchet    

    Is data list value ON?

    YES 

    Go to step 4.

    NO 

    Faulty ratchet switch; replace the Tailgate Latch .

  4. Shorted wire check (PTG RACT line)

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Power tailgate control unit connector C (14P)

    - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Power tailgate closer unit connector B (6P): disconnected
    Power tailgate control unit connector C (14P): disconnected
    Test point 1 Power tailgate control unit connector C (14P) No. 12 -
    Refer to:
    Power Tailgate Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Repair a short to ground in the wire.

    NO 

    Replace the Power Tailgate Control Unit .

  5. Determine possible failure area (power tailgate closer unit, others)

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Power tailgate closer unit connector B (6P)

    - 3. Connect terminals A and B with a jumper wire.

    Terminal A Power tailgate closer unit connector B (6P) No. 3
    Terminal B Power tailgate closer unit connector B (6P) No. 6

    - 4. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 5. Check the parameter(s) below with the HDS.

    Signal Current conditions
    Values Unit
    Tailgate Lock Sw. Ratchet    

    Is data list value ON?

    YES 

    Faulty ratchet switch; replace the Tailgate Latch .

    NO 

    Go to step 6.

  6. Determine possible failure area (PTG RACT line, PTG SEG3 line)

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the jumper wire.

    - 3. Connect terminals A and B with a jumper wire.

    Terminal A Power tailgate closer unit connector B (6P) No. 3
    Terminal B Body ground

    - 4. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 5. Check the parameter(s) below with the HDS.

    Signal Current conditions
    Values Unit
    Tailgate Lock Sw. Ratchet    

    Is data list value ON?

    YES 

    Go to step 7.

    NO 

    Go to step 8.

  7. Open wire check (PTG SEG3 line)

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the jumper wire.

    - 3. Disconnect the following connector.

    Power tailgate control unit connector A (14P)

    - 4. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Power tailgate closer unit connector B (6P): disconnected
    Power tailgate control unit connector C (14P): disconnected
    Test point 1 Power tailgate closer unit connector B (6P) No. 6
    Test point 2 Power tailgate control unit connector C (14P) No. 11 -

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Replace the Power Tailgate Control Unit .

    NO 

    Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.

  8. Open wire check (PTG RACT line)

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the jumper wire.

    - 3. Disconnect the following connector.

    Power tailgate control unit connector A (14P)

    - 4. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Power tailgate closer unit connector B (6P): disconnected
    Power tailgate control unit connector C (14P): disconnected
    Test point 1 Power tailgate closer unit connector B (6P) No. 3
    Test point 2 Power tailgate control unit connector C (14P) No. 12 -

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Replace the Power Tailgate Control Unit .

    NO 

    Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.
