DTC : B1382 (2019 2020 2021)

DTC B1382  : Tailgate Closer Unit Full Latch Switch Circuit Malfunction

NOTE:  If you are troubleshooting multiple DTCs, be sure to follow the instructions in B-CAN System Diagnosis Test Mode A - Initial Communication and DTC Checks .

DTCs (Power Tailgate Control Unit)

1. Problem verification 1

   - 1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

   Clear DTCs

   - 2. Open the tailgate with the tailgate outer handle switch.

   - 3. Close the tailgate manually.

   - 4. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

   DTC Description	DTC
   B1382 Tailgate Closer Unit Full Latch Switch Circuit Malfunction

   Is DTC B1382 indicated?

   YES 

   Go to step 2.

   NO 

   Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections.

2. Problem verification 2

   - 1. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

   DTC Description	DTC
   B1384 Tailgate Closer Unit Half Latch Switch Circuit Malfunction
   B1390 Power Tailgate Closer Motor Function Error

   Are DTC B1384 and/or B1390 indicated?

   YES 

   Go to the indicated DTCs troubleshooting, then recheck.

   NO 

   Go to step 3.

3. Determine possible failure area (T/GATE SW line short, others)

   - 1. Check the parameter(s) below with the HDS.

   Signal	Current conditions

   Tailgate Lock Switch. Full Latch

   Is data list value ON?

   YES 

   Go to step 4.

   NO 

   Go to step 6.

4. Determine possible failure area (power tailgate closer unit, others)

   - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

   - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

   Power tailgate closer unit connector B (6P)

   - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

   - 4. Check the parameter(s) below with the HDS.

   Signal	Current conditions
   	Values	Unit
   Tailgate Lock Switch. Full Latch

   Is data list value ON?

   YES 

   Go to step 5.

   NO 

   Faulty full latch switch; replace the Tailgate Latch .

5. Shorted wire check (T/GATE SW line)

   - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

   - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

   Power tailgate control unit connector A (24P)

   - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

   Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Power tailgate closer unit connector B (6P): disconnected Power tailgate control unit connector A (24P): disconnected
   Test point 1	Power tailgate control unit connector A (24P) No. 11 - Refer to: Power Tailgate Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2019 2020 2021)
   Test point 2	Body ground

   Is there continuity?

   YES 

   Repair a short to ground in the wire.

   NO 

   Replace the Power Tailgate Control Unit .

6. Determine possible failure area (power tailgate closer unit, others)

   - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

   - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

   Power tailgate closer unit connector B (6P)

   - 3. Connect terminals A and B with a jumper wire.

   Terminal A	Power tailgate closer unit connector B (6P) (female terminals) No. 1: (1)
   Terminal B	Power tailgate closer unit connector B (6P) (female terminals) No. 2: (1)

   - 4. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

   - 5. Check the parameter(s) below with the HDS.

   Signal	Current conditions
   	Values	Unit
   Tailgate Lock Switch. Full Latch

   Is data list value ON?

   YES 

   Faulty full latch switch; replace the Tailgate Latch .

   NO 

   Go to step 7.

7. Determine possible failure area (T/GATE SW line, PTG SEG3 line)

   - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

   - 2. Disconnect the jumper wire.

   - 3. Connect terminals A and B with a jumper wire.

   Terminal A	Power tailgate closer unit connector B (6P) (female terminals) No. 1: (1)
   Terminal B	Body ground

   - 4. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

   - 5. Check the parameter(s) below with the HDS.

   Signal	Current conditions
   	Values	Unit
   Tailgate Lock Switch. Full Latch

   Is data list value ON?

   YES 

   Go to step 8.

   NO 

   Go to step 9.

8. Open wire check (PTG SEG3 line)

   - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

   - 2. Disconnect the jumper wire.

   - 3. Disconnect the following connector.

   Power tailgate control unit connector A (24P)

   - 4. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

   Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Power tailgate closer unit connector B (6P): disconnected Power tailgate control unit connector A (24P): disconnected
   Test point 1	Power tailgate closer unit connector B (6P) (female terminals) No. 2: (1)
   Test point 2	Power tailgate control unit connector A (24P) No. 21 - Refer to: Power Tailgate Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2019 2020 2021)

   Is there continuity?

   YES 

   Replace the Power Tailgate Control Unit .

   NO 

   Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.

9. Open wire check (T/GATE SW line)

   - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

   - 2. Disconnect the jumper wire.

   - 3. Disconnect the following connector.

   Power tailgate control unit connector A (24P)

   - 4. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

   Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Power tailgate closer unit connector B (6P): disconnected Power tailgate control unit connector A (24P): disconnected
   Test point 1	Power tailgate closer unit connector B (6P) (female terminals) No. 1: (1)

   Is there continuity?

   YES 

   Replace the Power Tailgate Control Unit .

   NO 

   Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.
