DTCs (Power Tailgate Control Unit)
NOTE: If you are troubleshooting multiple DTCs, be sure to follow the instructions in B-CAN System Diagnosis Test Mode A - Initial Communication and DTC Checks .
- Problem verification 1
- 1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
Clear DTCs
- 2. Open the tailgate manually or with the keyless transmitter.
- 3. Close the tailgate with the keyless transmitter or driver's door power tailgate/fuel fill door opener switch.
- 4. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
DTC Description DTC B1379 Power Tailgate Left Touch/Pinch sensor circuit malfunction Is DTC B1379 indicated?
YES
Go to step 2.
NO
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections between the power tailgate control unit and the power tailgate left pinch sensor.
- Problem verification 2
- 1. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
DTC Description DTC B1378 Power Tailgate Right Touch/Pinch sensor circuit malfunction Is DTC B1378 indicated?
YES
Go to step 3.
NO
Go to step 4.
- Open wire check (PTG SEG2 line)
- 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Disconnect the following connectors.
Power tailgate control unit connector B (20P) Power tailgate left pinch sensor 4P connector - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
Power tailgate control unit connector B (20P): disconnected
Power tailgate left pinch sensor 4P connector: disconnectedTest point 1 Power tailgate control unit connector B (20P) No. 14 - Refer to:
Power Tailgate Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018)Test point 2 Power tailgate left pinch sensor 4P connector No. 2 Is there continuity?
YES
Replace the Power Tailgate Control Unit .
NO
Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.
- Determine possible failure area (power tailgate left pinch sensor, others)
- 1. Disconnect the following connector.
Power tailgate left pinch sensor 4P connector - 2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
- 3. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle ON mode
Power tailgate left pinch sensor 4P connector: disconnectedTest point 1 Power tailgate left pinch sensor 4P connector No. 1 Test point 2 Body ground Is there battery voltage?
YES
Replace the Power Tailgate Pinch Sensor .
NO
Go to step 5.
- Open wire check (PTG TSEL line)
- 1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle ON mode

Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.
NO
Replace the Power Tailgate Control Unit .
