DTC : P0589-15 (2019 2020 2021)

DTC P0589-15  : Main Switch Signal Circuit Open

NOTE:  Before you troubleshoot, review the general troubleshooting information - Go to: How to Troubleshoot the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) (2019 2020 2021) .

1. Problem verification

   - 1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

   - 2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

   Clear DTCs

   - 3. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

   - 4. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then wait for at least 5 seconds.

   - 5. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

   DTC Description	DTC
   P0589-15 Main Switch Signal Circuit Open

   Is DTC P0589-15 indicated?

   YES 

   The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.

   NO 

   Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to intermittent failures troubleshooting - Refer to: How to Troubleshoot the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) (2019 2020 2021) .

2. Open wire check (CRUISE SW line) 1

   - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

   - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

   ACC combination switch 12P connector

   - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

   - 4. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

   Test condition	Vehicle ON mode
   	ACC combination switch 12P connector: disconnected
   Test point 1	ACC combination switch 12P connector (female terminals) No. 3: (1)
   Test point 2	Body ground

   Is there about 5 V?

   YES 

   The CRUISE SW wire is not open. Go to step 3.

   NO 

   Go to step 7.

3. ACC combination switch internal circuit check

   - 1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

   Test condition	Vehicle ON mode
   	ACC combination switch 12P connector: disconnected
   Test point 1	ACC combination switch 12P connector (female terminals) No. 3: (1)
   Test point 2	ACC combination switch 12P connector (female terminals) No. 10: (1)

   Is there about 5 V?

   YES 

   Replace the ACC Combination Switch (2019 2020 2021) .

   NO 

   Go to step 4.

4. Open wire check (DISTANCE SW GND line) 1

   - 1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2 without disconnect the cable reel connector C (20P).

   Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
   	ACC combination switch 12P connector: disconnected
   Test point 1	Cable reel connector C (20P) (female terminals) No. 12: (1)
   Test point 2	Body ground

   Is there continuity?

   YES 

   Repair an open in the wire between the ACC combination switch and the cable reel.

   NO 

   Go to step 5.

5. Open wire check (DISTANCE SW GND line) 2

   - 1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2 without disconnect the cable reel connector A (20P).

   Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
   	ACC combination switch 12P connector: disconnected
   Test point 1	Cable reel connector A (20P) (female terminals) No. 1: (1)
   Test point 2	Body ground

   Is there continuity?

   YES 

   Replace the Cable Reel .

   NO 

   Go to step 6.

6. Open wire check (DISTANCE SW GND line) 4

   - 1. Disconnect the following connector.

   Cable reel connector A (20P)

   Gauge control module connector A (32P)

   - 2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2 without disconnect the gauge control module connector A (32P).

   Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
   	Cable reel connector A (20P) : disconnected
   	Gauge control module connector A (32P): disconnected
   	ACC combination switch 12P connector: disconnected
   Test point 1	Gauge control module connector A (32P) No. 5 - Refer to: Gauge Control Module Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2019) Gauge Control Module Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2020 2021)
   Test point 2	Cable reel connector A (20P) (female terminals) No. 1: (1)

   Is there continuity?

   YES 

   The DISTANCE SW GND wire is not open. Replace the Gauge Control Module .

   NO 

   Repair an open in the wire between the gauge control module and the cable reel.

7. Open wire check (CRUISE SW line) 2

   - 1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2 without disconnect the cable reel connector C (20P).

   Test condition	Vehicle ON mode
   	ACC combination switch 12P connector: disconnected
   Test point 1	Cable reel connector C (20P) (female terminals) No. 16: (1)
   Test point 2	Body ground

   Is there about 5 V?

   YES 

   Repair an open in the wire between the ACC combination switch and the cable reel.

   NO 

   Go to step 8.

8. Open wire check (CRUISE SW line) 3

   - 1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2 without disconnect the cable reel connector A (20P).

   Test condition	Vehicle ON mode
   	ACC combination switch 12P connector: disconnected
   Test point 1	Cable reel connector A (20P) (female terminals) No. 4: (1)
   Test point 2	Body ground

   Is there about 5 V?

   YES 

   Replace the Cable Reel .

   NO 

   Go to step 9.

9. Open wire check (CRUISE SW line) 4

   - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

   - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

   Cable reel connector A (20P)

   Gauge control module connector A (32P)

   - 3. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2 without disconnect the gauge control module connector A (32P).

   Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
   	Cable reel connector A (20P) : disconnected
   	Gauge control module connector A (32P): disconnected
   	ACC combination switch 12P connector: disconnected
   Test point 1	Gauge control module connector A (32P) No. 2 - Refer to: Gauge Control Module Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2019) Gauge Control Module Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2020 2021)
   Test point 2	Cable reel connector A (20P) (female terminals) No. 4: (1)

   Is there continuity?

   YES 

   The CRUISE SW wire is not open. Replace the Gauge Control Module .

   NO 

   Repair an open in the wire between the gauge control module and the cable reel.
