REAR ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING - HDMI DEVICE DOES NOT FUNCTION (With Navigation) (2016 2017 2018)
HDMI device does not function
NOTE:
- Check the vehicle 12 volt battery condition first - Refer to:
- Check the HDMI port for dirt or damage.
12 Volt Battery Test (Without Auto Idle Stop System) or
12 Volt Battery Test (With Auto Idle Stop System) .
- Problem verification
-1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
- 2. Connect a known-good HDMI device to the HDMI port.
- 3. Check if a image is displayed on the rear display and a audio sound is normal.
Does the rear display operate properly and does the audio sound normal?
YES
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.
NO: No sound
The failure is duplicated, Go to step 2.
NO: No image
Rear Controller and Screen Removal and Installation (2016 2017 2018) .
NO: No image and no sound
Replace the HDMI harness, and recheck. If the symptom does not go away, Rear Controller and Screen Removal and Installation (2016 2017 2018) .
- Shorted wire check (RES AUDIO L SIG, RES AUDIO R SIG lines)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Disconnect the following connectors.
Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) Audio-navigation unit connector H (24P) - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Audio-navigation unit connector H (24P) disconnected Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) disconnected Test circuit 1 Test point 1 Audio-navigation unit connector H (24P) No. 20 - Refer to:

YES
There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit and the rear controller and screen. Replace the affected shielded harness.
NO
The RES AUDIO L SIG and RES AUDIO R SIG wires are not shorted. Go to step 3.
- Shorted wire check (RES AUDIO lines)
-1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

YES
There is a short in the wires between the audio-navigation unit and the rear controller and screen. Replace the affected shielded harness.
NO
The RES AUDIO wires are not shorted. Go to step 4.
- Open wire check (RES AUDIO L SIG, RES AUDIO R SIG, RES AUDIO L/R GND lines)
-1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Audio-navigation unit connector H (24P) disconnected Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) disconnected Test point 1: Audio-navigation unit connector H (24P) - Refer to:

YES
The RES AUDIO L SIG, RES AUDIO R SIG, and RES AUDIO L/R GND wires are OK. Go to step 5.
NO
There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit and the rear controller and screen. Replace the affected shielded harness.
- Rear controller and screen check (substitution)
-1. Substitute a known-good rear controller and screen.
Rear Controller And Screen Removal And Installation (2016 2017 2018)
- 2. Reconnect all the connectors, and recheck.
Does the symptom go away?
YES
Replace the original rear controller and screen.
NO
Replace the audio-navigation unit. Audio-Navigation Unit Removal and Installation (2016 2017 2018) .
