Gauges System Description - Control/Function
Self-Diagnostic Function
The gauge control module provides the self-diagnostic function for checking the circuit of itself.
Speedometer and Tachometer
The PCM provides a vehicle speed signal to the gauge control module using the F-CAN. Based on this input, the gauge control module displays the current vehicle speed in the speedometer. The PCM provides an engine speed signal to the gauge control module using the F-CAN. Based on this input, the gauge control module displays the current engine speed in the tachometer.
Fuel Gauge and Fuel Indicator
The gauge control module displays the fuel gauge based on input value from the fuel gauge sending unit. The low fuel indicator turns on in the event that indication of the fuel gauge becomes lower than the minimum tank fill threshold.
Multi-Information Display (MID)
The multi-information display (MID) provides the ODO/trip meter, outside air temperature, average fuel efficiency, available cruising range, instant fuel economy, oil life, energy flow, seat belt reminder, average speed, and the status of keyless access system. In addition, the diagnostic system displays the communication errors and the DTCs.
ODOmeter and Trip Meter
The PCM provides a vehicle speed signal to the gauge control module using the F-CAN. Based on this input, the gauge control module tracks mileage for the odometer and trip meters. The mileage values are displayed in the multi-information display.
Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge
The PCM provides an engine coolant temperature signal to the gauge control module using the F-CAN. When the engine coolant temperature is high, the gauge control module displays the warning in the multi-information display (MID).
Outside Air Temperature
The gauge control module uses measurements provided by the outside air temperature sensor signal from climate control unit via the B-CAN. The outside air temperature indicator's displayed temperature can be recalibrated
5 deg.F (
3 deg.C) to meet the client's expectations.
Average Fuel Economy/Instant Fuel Economy, Range
The gauge control module receives signals such as fuel consumption, driving distance, vehicle speed, and engine speed from the PCM via F-CAN. It calculates average/instant fuel economy and range to display the results.
Ambient Meter
The ambient meter color changes to indicate real-time drive information and encourage the driver to drive fuel-efficiently. A green color indicates more fuel-efficient driving, and a white color indicates less fuel-efficient driving.
Select Position
The TCM sends the transmission shift position/mode to the gauge control module, using the F-CAN. The multi-information display (MID) indicates the shift position/mode based on these data.
Gauge Control Module Receives Information
The gauge control module receives information from each control unit via the F-CAN and the B-CAN to light or flash the indicators. The washer fluid level switch, idle stop OFF switch, intelligent traction management switch, snow switch, cruise control combination switch, ACC combination switch, parking brake switch, ECON switch, VSA OFF switch, CMBS OFF switch, dashlights brightness control switch, audio remote-HFL switch, and brake fluid level switch connect directly to the gauge control module.
Keyless Access System Information
The gauge control module receives information from the keyless access/TPMS control unit via the B-CAN to display status of the keyless access system.
Buzzer
The gauge control module includes a buzzer to provide the driver with audible warnings.
Illumination Control
With the exterior lights turned off, the system is in the lights OFF state. Brightness can be adjusted using the dashlights brightness control switch.
Intelligent Traction Management
The intelligent traction management allows a vehicle to drive depending on the terrain by selecting one of the 4 modes(NORMAL, SNOW, MUD, and SAND)* 1 or 2 modes (NORMAL and SNOW)* 2. If a driver presses the intelligent traction management switch* 1 or snow switch* 2, the system adjusts the rear differential * 1, VSA system, DBW , and A/T system.

Second Row Seat Belt Reminder
When the gauge control module receives the seat belt buckle switch signal from the SRS unit and each door switch signal from the MICU, the second row seat belt reminder sounds the alarm, turns on/blinks the seat belt warning light and displays the seat belt icon. If any second row seat belt transitions from buckled state to unbuckled state, the second row seat belt reminder turns on the seat belt warning light and displays the seat belt icon while the vehicle stops, or sounds the alarm, blinks the seat belt warning light and displays the seat belt icon while the vehicle runs.
