DTC B2868-14  : Front Passenger's E-Pretensioner Motor Circuit Open or Short to Ground

NOTE:

B2868-14 Front Passenger's E-Pretensioner Motor Circuit Open or Short to Ground  

DTC (E-pretensioner)

  1. Problem verification

    -1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

    -2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -3. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    B2868-14 Front Passenger's E-Pretensioner Motor Circuit Open or Short to Ground  

    Is DTC B2868-14 indicated?

    YES 

    The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.

    NO 

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Refer to intermittent failures troubleshooting.

  2. Determine possible failure area (E-PT R MTR+ line, E-PT R MTR- line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Front passenger's E-pretensioner motor 2P connector

    -3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -4. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle ON mode
    Front passenger's E-pretensioner motor 2P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit E-PT R MTR+
    Test point 1 Front passenger's E-pretensioner motor 2P connector No. 1 (WHT)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there 0.2 V or less?

    YES 

    Go to step 5.

    NO 

    Go to step 3.

  3. Open wire check (E-PT R MTR- line) 1

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Front passenger's E-pretensioner motor 2P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit E-PT R MTR-
    Test point 1 Front passenger's E-pretensioner motor 2P connector No. 2 (BRN)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The E-PT R MTR- wire is OK. Faulty front passenger's E-pretensioner motor; replace the front passenger's seat belt .

    NO 

    Go to step 4.

  4. Open wire check (E-PT R MTR- line) 2

    -1. Disconnect the following connector.

    E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P)

    -2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Front passenger's E-pretensioner motor 2P connector: disconnected
    E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P): disconnected
    Test circuit E-PT R MTR-
    Test point 1 Front passenger's E-pretensioner motor 2P connector No. 2 (BRN)
    Test point 2 E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P) No. 2 (BRN)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The E-PT R MTR- wire is OK. Replace the E-pretensioner unit .

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P) of the E-pretensioner unit and the front passenger's E-pretensioner motor.

  5. Shorted wire check (E-PT R MTR+ line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P)

    -3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Front passenger's E-pretensioner motor 2P connector: disconnected
    E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P): disconnected
    Test circuit E-PT R MTR+
    Test point 1 E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P) No. 1 (WHT)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Repair a short to ground in the wire between the E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P) of the E-pretensioner unit and the front passenger's E-pretensioner motor.

    NO 

    Go to step 6.

  6. Open wire check (E-PT R MTR+ line)

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Front passenger's E-pretensioner motor 2P connector: disconnected
    E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P): disconnected
    Test circuit E-PT R MTR+
    Test point 1 Front passenger's E-pretensioner motor 2P connector No. 1 (WHT)
    Test point 2 E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P) No. 1 (WHT)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The E-PT R MTR+ wire is OK. Replace the E-pretensioner unit .

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P) of the E-pretensioner unit and the front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor.
