DTC B2861-11 : Front Passenger's E-Pretensioner Spool Sensor Signal Circuit Short to Another Signal Circuit
NOTE:
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review General Troubleshooting Information .
- Before replacing the E-pretensioner unit, check the E-pretensioner unit software version with the HDS. If the software version is not the latest, update the E-pretensioner unit software , and retest.

DTC (E-pretensioner)
- Problem verification
-1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
-2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
-3. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
DTC Description DTC B2861-11 Front Passenger's E-Pretensioner Spool Sensor Signal Circuit Short to Another Signal Circuit Is DTC B2861-11 indicated?
YES
The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.
NO
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Refer to intermittent failures troubleshooting.
- E-PT MTR R GA line check 1
-1. Check the parameter (s) below with the HDS.
Signal Current conditions Values Unit Front Passenger's Spool Sensor A Input Voltage When slowly pulling out the seat belt, is there battery voltage?
YES
Go to step 6.
NO
Go to step 3.
- E-PT MTR R GA line check 2
-1. Check the parameter (s) below with the HDS.
Signal Current conditions Values Unit Front Passenger's Spool Sensor A Input Voltage When slowly pulling out the seat belt, is there 0 V?
YES
Go to step 4.
NO
Go to step 5.
- Shorted wire check (E-PT MTR R GA line)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
-2. Disconnect the following connector.
Front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor 3P connector -3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2 without disconnecting the E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P).
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor 3P connector: disconnected Test circuit E-PT MTR R GA Test point 1 E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P) No. 12 (GRY) Test point 2 Body ground Is there continuity?
YES
Repair a short to ground in the wire between the E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P) of the E-pretensioner unit and the front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor.
NO
The E-PT MTR R GA wire is OK. Faulty front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor; replace the front passenger's seat belt .
- Shorted wire check (E-PT MTR R GA line to E-PT MTR R GB line)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
-2. Disconnect the following connector.
Front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor 3P connector -3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2 without disconnecting the E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P).
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor 3P connector: disconnected Test circuit E-PT MTR R GA, E-PT MTR R GB Test point 1 E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P) No. 12 (GRY) Test point 2 E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P) No. 6 (PUR) Is there continuity?
YES
Repair a short in the wires between the E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P) of the E-pretensioner unit and the front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor.
NO
The E-PT MTR R GA and E-PT MTR R GB wires are OK. Faulty front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor; replace the front passenger's seat belt .
- Shorted wire check (E-PT MTR R VC line to E-PT MTR R GA line)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
-2. Disconnect the following connector.
Front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor 3P connector -3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2 without disconnecting the E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P).
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor 3P connector: disconnected Test circuit E-PT MTR R VC, E-PT MTR R GA Test point 1 E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P) No. 8 (PNK) Test point 2 E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P) No. 12 (GRY) Is there continuity?
YES
Repair a short in the wires between the E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P) of the E-pretensioner unit and the front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor.
NO
The E-PT MTR R VC and E-PT MTR R GA wires are OK. Faulty front passenger's E-pretensioner spool sensor; replace the front passenger's seat belt .
