DTC P0C76 (487):  HV Battery System Discharge Time Too Long

General Description

The active discharge system (ADS) is used to lower the voltage of the high the voltage device for electric shock protection in case of crash. To secure safety for the situation, the collision shut-off system is activated after the vehicle condition is turned to the OFF (LOCK) mode. If the voltage of the high voltage device cannot be lowered within a specified time, the battery condition monitor module A detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Execution After the vehicle condition is turned to the OFF (LOCK) mode
Sequence None

DTC Type Two drive cycles, MIL off, POWER SYSTEM indicator on, 12 volt battery charging system indicator off

Enable Conditions 

Condition Minimum Maximum
Motor counter-electromotive voltage - 58 V
ADS condition ON
Vehicle condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode, or Plug-in charge off, or Plug-in quick charge off

Malfunction Threshold 

The voltage of the VCU secondary side voltage is 63 V or more for at least 2.3 seconds.

Possible Cause 

NOTE: The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.
  • ADS resister line open
  • ADS internal failure

Confirmation Procedure 

Operating Condition 

Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode, and wait at least 90 seconds.

With the HDS 

None.

Diagnosis Details 

Conditions for setting the DTC 

When a malfunction is detected during the first drive cycle, a Pending DTC is stored in the battery condition monitor module A memory. If the malfunction returns in the next (second) drive cycle, the POWER SYSTEM indicator comes on and a Confirmed DTC and the freeze data are stored.

Conditions for clearing the DTC 

The POWER SYSTEM indicator is cleared if the malfunction does not return in the next trip in which the diagnostic runs. The POWER SYSTEM indicator, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command.
