DTC P0AE1 (62)

DTC P0AE1 (62):  HV Battery Precharge Contactor Circuit

General Description

GHH415038Courtesy of HONDA, U.S.A., INC.
GHH415039Courtesy of HONDA, U.S.A., INC.

In electric powertrain system, the main contactor-positive between the battery pack and the inverter is turned ON to operate the electric powertrain system after vehicle condition is turned to the ON mode or after the charge connector is inserted in the charge inlet. At this time, the main contactor-negative and the precharge contactor-positive are turned ON before the main contactor-positive is turned ON, and the power drive unit (PDU) capacitor is gradually charged by the controlled current of the precharge resister. When the difference of the voltage between the inverter and the battery pack is within the specified value, the main contactor-positive is turned ON and the precharge contactor-positive is turned OFF. If the difference of the voltage between the inverter and the battery pack does not become a specified value for a set time after the precharge contactor-positive is turned ON, the battery condition monitor module A detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Monitor Execution, Sequence, Duration, DTC Type

Execution Once per driving cycle (Vehicle ON mode, or Plug-in charge on)
Sequence None
Duration 400 milliseconds or more
DTC Type One drive cycle, MIL off, POWER SYSTEM indicator on, 12 volt battery charging system indicator on

Enable Conditions

Condition Minimum Maximum
Elapsed time after precharge contactor on 400 milliseconds -
Battery condition monitor module A power-supply voltage 10.2 V -
Vehicle condition Vehicle ON mode, or Plug-in charge on, or Plug-in quick charge on

Malfunction Threshold

The difference between the inverter voltage and the battery pack voltage is more than 9.35 V at least 660 milliseconds.

Possible Cause

NOTE: The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.

Confirmation Procedure

Operating Condition

Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait at least 2 seconds.

With the HDS

None.

Diagnosis Details

Conditions for setting the DTC

When a malfunction is detected, the POWER SYSTEM indicator, and the 12 volt battery charging system indicator comes on and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the battery condition monitor module A memory.

Conditions for clearing the DTC

The POWER SYSTEM indicator and the 12 volt battery charging system indicator are cleared if the malfunction does not return in the next trip in which the diagnostic runs. The POWER SYSTEM indicator, the 12 volt battery charging system indicator, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command.
