DTC P0480 (687)

DTC P0480 (687):  Electric Powertrain RFC Circuit

General Description

GHH415003Courtesy of HONDA, U.S.A., INC.

The electric powertrain system has a system to cool the battery pack, battery charger and DC-DC converter with coolant. The radiator fan receives duty command from the battery condition monitor module A and returns actual revolution speed to the battery condition monitor module A. The battery condition monitor module A compares the actual revolution speed with the duty command and when the revolution speed is lower than a specified value for a set time, the battery condition monitor module A detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Monitor Execution, Sequence, Duration, DTC Type

Execution Continuous
Sequence None
Duration -
DTC Type Two drive cycles, MIL off, POWER SYSTEM indicator on, 12 volt battery charging system indicator off

Enable Conditions

Condition Minimum Maximum
Battery condition monitor module A power-supply voltage 10 V 18 V
Radiator fan duty command 25 % -
Vehicle condition Vehicle ON mode, or Plug-in charge on, or Plug-in quick charge on

Malfunction Threshold

The radiator fan speed is less than 234 RPM at least 12 seconds.

Possible Cause

NOTE: The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.
  • Radiator fan failure
  • Battery condition monitor module A internal failure

Confirmation Procedure

Operating condition

With the HDS

None.

Diagnosis Details

Conditions for setting the DTC

When a malfunction is detected during the first drive cycle, a Pending DTC is stored in the battery condition monitor module A memory. If the malfunction returns in the next (second) drive cycle, the POWER SYSTEM indicator comes on and a Confirmed DTC and the freeze data are stored.

Conditions for clearing the DTC

The POWER SYSTEM indicator are cleared if the malfunction does not return in the next trip in which the diagnostic runs. The POWER SYSTEM indicator the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command.
