DTC U0029-00

DTC U0029-00  : CAN Gateway F-CAN ch A Bus Off

NOTE: Before you troubleshoot, review the general troubleshooting information .
DTC Description DTC
U0029-00 CAN Gateway F-CAN ch A Bus Off  

DTC (CAN GATEWAY)

  1. Problem verification

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    -3. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -4. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait 6 seconds.

    -5. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    DTC (CAN GATEWAY)

    Is DTC U0029-00 indicated?

    YES 

    The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.

    NO 

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. If the on-board snapshot of this DTC is recorded, try to reproduce the failure under the same conditions with the on-board snapshot .

  2. Shorted unit check (PCM)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Jump the SCS line with the HDS, and wait more than 1 minute.

    -3. Disconnect the following connector.

    PCM connector A (50P)

    -4. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -5. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    -6. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -7. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait 6 seconds.

    -8. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    DTC (CAN GATEWAY)

    Is DTC U0029-00 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 3.

    NO 

    Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting, or substitute a known-good PCM , then recheck. If DTC U0029-00 goes away and the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM .

  3. Shorted unit check (climate control unit)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Climate control unit connector A (32P)

    -3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -4. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    -5. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -6. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait for 6 seconds.

    -7. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    DTC (CAN GATEWAY)

    Is DTC U0029-00 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 4.

    NO 

    Substitute a known-good climate control unit , then recheck. If DTC U0029-00 goes away and the climate control unit was substituted, replace the original climate control unit .

  4. Shorted unit check (electric A/C compressor)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Electric A/C compressor 4P connector

    -3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -4. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    -5. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -6. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait for 6 seconds.

    -7. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    DTC (CAN GATEWAY)

    Is DTC U0029-00 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 5.

    NO 

    Substitute a known-good electric A/C compressor , then recheck. If DTC U0029-00 goes away and the electric A/C compressor was substituted, replace the original electric A/C compressor .

  5. Shorted unit check (electric coolant heater)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Electric coolant heater 4P connector

    -3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -4. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    -5. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -6. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait for 6 seconds.

    -7. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    DTC (CAN GATEWAY)

    Is DTC U0029-00 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 6.

    NO 

    Substitute a known-good electric coolant heater , then recheck. If DTC U0029-00 goes away and the electric coolant heater was substituted, replace the original electric coolant heater .

  6. Shorted unit check (battery charge control module)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Do the 12 volt battery terminal disconnection procedure .

    -3. Disconnect the following connector.

    Battery charge control module connector B (40P)

    -4. Do the 12 volt battery terminal reconnection procedure .

    -5. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -6. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    -7. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -8. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait for 6 seconds.

    -9. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    DTC (CAN GATEWAY)

    Is DTC U0029-00 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 7.

    NO 

    Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting, or substitute a known-good battery charge control module , then recheck. If DTC U0029-00 goes away and the battery charge control module was substituted, replace the original battery charge control module .

  7. Shorted unit check (PCU)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    PCU 33P connector
    NOTE: Before disconnecting the PCU connector, do the 12 volt battery terminal disconnection procedure , and turn off the service plug .

    -3. Do the 12 volt battery terminal reconnection procedure .

    -4. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -5. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    -6. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -7. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait 6 seconds.

    -8. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    DTC (CAN GATEWAY)

    Is DTC U0029-00 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 8.

    NO 

    Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting, or substitute a known-good PCU , then recheck. If DTC U0029-00 goes away and the PCU was substituted, replace the original PCU .

  8. Shorted unit check (IPU)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    IPU 33P connector
    NOTE: Before disconnecting the IPU connector, do the 12 volt battery terminal disconnection procedure , and turn off the service plug .

    -3. Do the 12 volt battery terminal reconnection procedure .

    -4. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -5. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    -6. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -7. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait 6 seconds.

    -8. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    DTC (CAN GATEWAY)

    Is DTC U0029-00 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 9.

    NO 

    Go to step 12.

  9. Shorted wire check (F-CAN A_H line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    CAN gateway 16P connector

    -3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      PCM connector A (50P): disconnected
      Climate control unit connector A (32P): disconnected
      Electric A/C compressor 4P connector: disconnected
      Electric coolant heater 4P connector: disconnected
      Battery charge control module connector B (40P): disconnected
      PCU 33P connector: disconnected
      IPU 33P connector: disconnected
      CAN gateway 16P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 CAN gateway 16P connector (female terminals) No. 3:
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Repair a short in the F-CAN A_H wire between the CAN gateway and the connected units.

    NO 

    Go to step 10.

  10. Shorted wire check (F-CAN A_L line)

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      PCM connector A (50P): disconnected
      Climate control unit connector A (32P): disconnected
      Electric A/C compressor 4P connector: disconnected
      Electric coolant heater 4P connector: disconnected
      Battery charge control module connector B (40P): disconnected
      PCU 33P connector: disconnected
      IPU 33P connector: disconnected
      CAN gateway 16P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 CAN gateway 16P connector (female terminals) No. 11:
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Repair a short in the F-CAN A_L wire between the CAN gateway and the connected units.

    NO 

    Go to step 11.

  11. Shorted wire check (F-CAN A_H line to F-CAN A_L line)

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      PCM connector A (50P): disconnected
      Climate control unit connector A (32P): disconnected
      Electric A/C compressor 4P connector: disconnected
      Electric coolant heater 4P connector: disconnected
      Battery charge control module connector B (40P): disconnected
      PCU 33P connector: disconnected
      IPU 33P connector: disconnected
      CAN gateway 16P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 CAN gateway 16P connector (female terminals) No. 3:
    Test point 2 CAN gateway 16P connector (female terminals) No. 11:

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Repair a short in the F-CAN A_H wire to the F-CAN A_L wire between CAN gateway terminals No. 3 and No. 11.

    NO 

    Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting, or substitute a known-good CAN gateway , then recheck. If DTC U0029-00 goes away and the CAN gateway was substituted, replace the original CAN gateway .

  12. Shorted wire check (F-CAN A_H line, F-CAN A_L line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Do the 12 volt battery terminal disconnection procedure .

    -3. Remove the service plug .

    -4. Remove the IPU .

    -5. Remove the IPU cover .

    -6. Disconnect the following connectors.

    Battery condition monitor module A connector G (24P)
    Battery condition monitor module B connector G (24P)
    DC-DC converter 4P connector

    -7. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      PCM connector A (50P): disconnected
      Climate control unit connector A (32P): disconnected
      Electric A/C compressor 4P connector: disconnected
      Electric coolant heater 4P connector: disconnected
      Battery charge control module connector B (40P): disconnected
      PCU 33P connector: disconnected
      IPU 33P connector: disconnected
      Battery condition monitor module A connector G (24P): disconnected
      Battery condition monitor module B connector G (24P): disconnected
      DC-DC converter 4P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 Battery condition monitor module A connector G (24P) No. 12
    Test point 2 Body ground
    Test point 1 Battery condition monitor module A connector G (24P) No. 24
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Repair an short in the F-CAN A_H wire or the F-CAN A_L wire between the IPU 33P connector, the DC-DC converter, battery condition monitor module A, and battery condition monitor module B.

    NO 

    Go to step 13.

  13. Shorted wire check (F-CAN A_H line to F-CAN A_L line)

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      PCM connector A (50P): disconnected
      Climate control unit connector A (32P): disconnected
      Electric A/C compressor 4P connector: disconnected
      Electric coolant heater 4P connector: disconnected
      Battery charge control module connector B (40P): disconnected
      PCU 33P connector: disconnected
      IPU 33P connector: disconnected
      Battery condition monitor module A connector G (24P): disconnected
      Battery condition monitor module B connector G (24P): disconnected
      DC-DC converter 4P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 Battery condition monitor module A connector G (24P) No. 12
    Test point 2 Battery condition monitor module A connector G (24P) No. 24

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Repair an short in the F-CAN A_H to F-CAN A_L wires between the IPU 33P connector, the DC-DC converter, battery condition monitor module A, and battery condition monitor module B.

    NO 

    Go to step 14.

  14. DC-DC converter check

    -1. Reconnect the following connectors.

    Battery condition monitor module A connector G (24P)
    Battery condition monitor module B connector G (24P)

    -2. Install the IPU cover .

    -3. Install the IPU .

    -4. Install the service plug .

    -5. Do the 12 volt battery terminal reconnection procedure .

    -6. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -7. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    -8. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -9. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait for 6 seconds.

    -10. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    DTC (CAN GATEWAY)

    Is DTC U0029-00 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 15.

    NO 

    Replace the DC-DC converter .

  15. Battery condition monitor module B check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Do the 12 volt battery terminal disconnection procedure .

    -3. Remove the service plug .

    -4. Remove the IPU .

    -5. Remove the IPU cover .

    -6. Disconnect battery condition monitor module B connector G (24P).

    -7. Install the IPU cover .

    -8. Install the IPU .

    -9. Install the service plug .

    -10. Reconnect all connectors.

    -11. Do the 12 volt battery terminal reconnection procedure .

    -12. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -13. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    -14. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -15. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait for 6 seconds.

    -16. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    DTC (CAN GATEWAY)

    Is DTC U0029-00 indicated?

    YES 

    Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting, or substitute a known-good battery condition monitor module A , then recheck. If the DTC U0029-00 goes away and battery condition monitor module A was substituted, replace original battery condition monitor module A .

    NO 

    Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting, or substitute a known-good battery condition monitor module B , then recheck. If the DTC U0029-00 goes away and battery condition monitor module B was substituted, replace original battery condition monitor module B .
