Steering Gearbox Removal and Installation: Removal

Replace
  1. 12 Volt Battery Terminal - Disconnect
  2. Vehicle - Lift
  3. Front Wheel - Remove
  4. Steering Joint - Disconnect 
  5. Tie-Rod End Ball Joint - Disconnect (Both Sides) 
  6. Engine Undercover - Remove
  7. Connectors (EPS Harness) - Disconnect

    1. Disconnect the connectors (A).

    NOTE:  Wrap the connectors with vinyl tape to avoid contamination from grease or water.

    2. Remove the harness clip (B).

  8. Stabilizer Link - Disconnect
    1. Disconnect both sides of the stabilizer link from the stabilizer bar .
  9. Front Lower Arm - Disconnect
    1. Disconnect both sides of the front lower arm from the ball joints .
  10. Exhaust Pipe A - Remove
  11. Propeller Shaft - Remove (AWD)
  12. Front Subframe Brace - Remove
  13. Lower Torque Rod - Remove
  14. Front Lower Arm Mounting Bolt - Remove

    1. Remove both sides of the front lower arm mounting bolt from the body .
  15. Front Subframe - Lift Down

    1. Set the subframe adapter (VSB02C000016) on a transmission jack (A), line up the slots in the arms with the bolt holes on the corner of the jack base, and tighten the bolts.

    2. Attach the subframe adapter to the front subframe (B).

    3. Using the transmission jack, lower the front subframe until dropped from the body

    .NOTE:  Do not lower the front subframe more than required.

  16. Front Stabilizer Bar Bushing Holder - Remove
    1. Remove both sides of the front stabilizer bar bushing holder .
  17. Steering Gearbox - Remove

    1. Remove the pinion shaft grommet (A).

    2. Remove the steering gearbox (B) through the clearance of the body and the front subframe.
