Climate Control System Symptom Troubleshooting - The A/C condenser/radiator fans do not run at high speed, but do run at low speed

The A/C condenser/radiator fans do not run at high speed, but do run at low speed

NOTE:

  1. Fuse check

    -1. Check the following fuses.

    Fuse No. A2-6 (30 A)
    Location Under-hood fuse/relay box
    Fuse No. B25 (7.5 A)
    Location Fuse/relay holder A

    Is each fuse OK?

    YES

    Go to step 2.

    NO

    Replace the fuse(s), and recheck. If the fuse(s) blows again, repair a short in the No. A2-6 (30 A) and/or the No. B25 (7.5 A) fuse circuit(s).

  2. A/C condenser fan low speed operation check

-1. Jump the SCS line with the HDS, and wait more than 1 minute.

NOTE:  This step must be done to protect the PCM from damage.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    1.5 L engine: PCM connector A (50P)
    2.4 L engine: PCM connector A (51P)

-3. Connect terminals A and B with a jumper wire.

    1.5 L engine

    Terminal A PCM connector A (50P) No. 17
    Terminal B Body ground

    2.4 L engine

    Terminal A PCM connector A (51P) No. 9
    Terminal B Body ground

-4. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

Do the A/C condenser and radiator fans run on low?

    YES

    Go to step 3.

    NO

Go to radiator and A/C condenser fan low speed circuit troubleshooting .

  3. A/C condenser fan high speed operation check

-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

-2. Connect terminals A and B with jumper wires.

    1.5 L engine

    Terminal A PCM connector A (50P) No. 18
    Terminal B Body ground

    2.4 L engine

    Terminal A PCM connector A (51P) No. 10
    Terminal B Body ground

-3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

Do the A/C condenser and radiator fans run on high?

    YES

Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting, or substitute a known-good PCM , then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away and the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM .

    NO

    Go to step 4.

  4. A/C condenser fan relay check

-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the jumper wires.

-3. Remove the A/C condenser fan relay from the relay holder F, and test it .

    Is the relay OK?

    YES

    Go to step 5.

    NO

Replace the A/C condenser fan relay.

  5. Open wire check (+B SUB FAN line)

-1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    PCM connector A (50P): disconnected
    A/C condenser fan relay: disconnected
Test point 1 A/C condenser fan relay 4P socket (female terminals) No. 1:
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES

The +B SUB FAN wire is OK. Go to step 6.

    NO

An open in the +B SUB FAN wire.

  6. Open wire check (SUB FAN MOTOR line)

-1. Connect terminals A and B with a jumper wire.

Terminal A A/C condenser fan relay 4P socket (female terminals) No. 1:
Terminal B A/C condenser fan relay 4P socket (female terminals) No. 2:
    GHH428627Courtesy of HONDA, U.S.A., INC.

Does the A/C condenser fan run on high?

    YES

The SUB FAN MOTOR wire is not open. Go to step 7.

    NO

Repair an open in the SUB FAN MOTOR wire.

  7. A/C condenser fan relay coil side power circuit check

    -1. Disconnect the jumper wire.

-2. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
